AG3 Band to bring rock and roll to Derby Green Friday

DERBY - The City is hosting free concerts on the Derby Green on Friday nights at 7 p.m. There is no rain date for the AG3 Band concert.

DERBY - Old School Band will perform the last concert of the summer/fall series starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday on the Green. 

Old School Band plays classic rock and roll music. The performance is sponsored by the City and Derby 350.

DERBY - The City of Derby today announced an End of Summer Outdoor Concert Series on the Derby Green beginning this Tuesday, Town/City Clerk Marc Garofalo said in an email.

The Valley-based rock and roll band Old School will perform from 7-9 p.m. to kick off the series.

"We look forward to seeing old friends and making new friends as summer comes to a close," Garofalo said.

The series will continue on Tuesday evenings on Aug. 24, Aug. 31, and Sept. 7.

The other three bands will be announced at the first concert.

Harris has taught and written about music for more than four decades. His latest book "Bluegrass, Newgrass, Old-time and Americana Music" was published in 2018. He’s also the author of "The Band: Pioneers of Americana Music" (2014) and "Heartbeat, Warble and the Electric Powwow: American Indian Music" (2016), as well as music-oriented reviews, articles and photos for newspapers, magazines, and websites.
His passion for music, however, goes beyond the printed word. A skilled percussionist/drummer, he has played with C.J. Chenier, Melanie, Rod MacDonald, Jonathan Edwards, Greg Brown, Merl Saunders, and Rick Danko (The Band). In addition to working with an acoustic Americana group (Two Days Jeans), he’s been a member of the Gaea Star Band (with whom he co-hosts a syndicated weekly radio show) since 2014.

The Name Droppers to perform at Regal Beagle in New Haven

NEW HAVEN - The Elm City will be alive with music from 8-11 p.m. Friday when “The Name Droppers” roll into the Regal Beagle, 17 Whitney Ave., New Haven. 

The band consists of: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Drummer Bobby T. Torello, Grammy Award Winning Bassist Scott Spray (Johnny Winter Band), Charlie Karp’s protégée Rafe Klein on Guitar, and Keyboard Powerhouse Ron Rifkin. 
They will be playing some of their originals and standards for this great evening of Rock and Roll with a little bit of blue eyed soul. 

The Name Droppers have been recording at Horizon Music Studio with 2016 New England Music Awards Producer of the Year, Vic Steffens, and their record will be released early 2020.
