Derby Public Library slates 2 Teen Advisory Board meetings

DERBY - The Teen Advisory Board will meet from 3:30-4:30 p.m. May 29 and June 26 at Derby Public Library.

The board offers a relaxed forum for young adults to voice ideas for teen programs, materials, and resources at the Library and exploring ways to help the community.

Light snacks provided. No registration needed.

Derby Neck Library hosts virtual teen game nights

Derby Public Library to hold Teen Summer Club

DERBY - The Derby Public Library invites young adults ages 12 to 17 to join the 2017 Teen Summer Club. 
This year’s theme is “Build a Better World” encouraging members to engage in various creative outlets while making new friends and exploring resources. 

Registration continues through mid-July. Club members will meet Thursdays from 1:30-3 p.m. 
Available resources include 3D design programs, 3D printer, 3D doodle pens, Legos, and more! 
Light snacks will be provided. 
Members will earn credit for each event attended. Attendance at two events and completing a book review will earn members a $20 gift card from the Connecticut Sports Center. A grand prize winner will be drawn at the club’s finale pizza party Aug. 10.

DERBY - The Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave., has scheduled activities for January.
Video games
From 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 16 a Teen Video Tournament will feature the newly-released Super Mario Maker on Wii U. 
All teens and t'weens are invited to compete for a grand prize. Free refreshments will be available. Bring your friends for a fun time. 

Discussion group
At 12:30 p.m. Jan. 18 the Library will host Women’s Forum, a literary discussion group that focuses on short stories and poetry. This month’s stories are “Ted and Angeline” by Dinah Lampitt and “Stuff and Sawdust” by Valerie Thame.

Tech Talks

DERBY - The Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave., lists the following activities for October:

Smash Club
At 2 p.m. Oct. 1 the Library hosts Smash Club for teens and tweens. Come play Super Smash Brothers on our WiiU. No competition, just an afternoon of fun.

Dinner and a Movie
The Library presents Dinner and a Movie for ages 18 and older at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 1. This month’s feature, shown on blu-ray, is the newly released Cinderella.
We serve free movie refreshments and a free dinner at the intermission.

Live music
The Library presents an afternoon performance of live music at 2 p.m. Oct. 10. Come enjoy singer-songwriter Sheri Miller as she presents Fall in Love music. She includes traditional pieces as well as her own creations. 

This event is open to all ages. Free light refreshments will be served.

Music and Movement
The Library presents Bedtime Music and Movement with Miss Kathi at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 14. Come sing and dance under our indoor stars. Wear your jammies and bring a favorite stuffed animal if you like.

Ice cream on the menu for teens at Shelton History Center

Press release follows:

SHELTON - Area teens will have a chance to make their own sundaes at Shelton History Center from 2-4 p.m. Saturday.

First, however, they will actually be making the ice cream to go into the sundaes!

Shelton Historical Society’s Teen Time Travelers will host the party for teens and their 

parents or guardians.  

The Teen Time Travelers is a group that was formed in 2014 for students ages 13-18

to provide learning, volunteer, and enjoyable activities based on historical themes. 

They have practiced their public speaking skills by giving information about the buildings 

to visitors during events, traveled to other museums for behind the scenes tours, learned 

research techniques, organized activities for children, and completed community service requirements for their respective schools.

The teens will provide activities for visitors during the ice cream party. 

While everyone is welcome, the party will introduce others to the group and invite those 

interested to join. There is no charge for the event.
