Seymour Lions Club accepting scholarship applications

SEYMOUR- The Seymour Lions Club is accepting scholarship applications for 2018. 

This scholarship is open to all high school seniors that are residents of Seymour planning to attend any college or course of study. 
Four $500 scholarships are awarded each year.

You can fill out your application online, at www.e-clubhouse.org/sites/seymourct. After filling out the application under the scholarship tab, simply print it out along with the application cover sheet also found online. 
You can mail your essay, application, and cover sheet to:

All applications must be postmarked by April 1 of the current year. 
The check will be made payable directly to the college/course of study upon verification of students' acceptance into the college/course of study.

Amity students donate 210 bags of clothing to My Sister's Place in Ansonia

ANSONIA - Amity Regional High School students in Woodbridge recently concluded their annual clothing drive for My Sister’s Place.

MSP is a unique family thrift shop at 380 Main St. 

All of the proceeds from the store benefit BHcare’s Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services.

The clothing drive is an annual program run by the student government. 

A total of 210 bags of clothes was donated by the students this year for a total of 2,638 pounds of clothing.

“We look forward every year to Amity’s clothing drive,” said Nancy Cahoon, MSP store manager. 

“We are grateful for their continued support of the store and the fight against domestic violence.”   

UCDVS provides free and confidential services to over 6,000 victims of domestic violence and their children. 
Services such as emergency shelter, 24-hour crisis hotlines, walk-in crisis centers, counseling, advocacy, and other supports are provided to those fleeing from domestic abuse. 

MSP, a program of BHcare, offers quality new and gently used clothing, furniture, and housewares at discount prices.

Seymour Public Library offers fun kids' activities in March

SEYMOUR - The Seymour Public Library, 46 Church St., has a variety of educational and fun activities scheduled in March.

3/6, 13, 20, 27, 4/3 - 10:30 a.m.- Family Place Play Group – many different types of play, craft table and brief circle time- meet up with old friends and make new friends – for infants to 6 years old – sometimes helpful info from local childhood experts- all are welcome!

3/7 - 4 p.m. – Nutmeggers’ - YA Book Club for Grades 5 - 8.  Book talk, craft and a snack - features the Intermediate Nutmeg Nominees.

3/8 - 4 p.m. – BookChatters’ Book Club for Grades 2-4. Book talk, craft, and a snack - features the Magic Tree House Series 

3/15 - 10:30 a.m.- Preschoolers’ Egg Hunt Party! Stories, games, crafts, and refreshments for infants - 6 year olds! Bring your own basket!

3/15 - 3 p.m. – Movie “Ferdinand” based on the classic book. Popcorn served!

3/22 -10:30 a.m.– Science Snoopers ‘Animal Homes!’ – Natural science, story, and craft for ages 2 and up. Must be able to sit and listen.

All programs are free! fun! and formative!

Some have limited enrollment and registration is required for all programs.

Railroad history topic of talk at Plumb Memorial Library in Shelton

SHELTON - A presentation, Rails to Back Trails, will be held at 7 p.m. March 19 at Plumb Memorial Library, 65 Wooster St.

The free program will recount the then-and-now of local railroad history starting in 1836 when railroad was king. 

It will cover the events and industry that surrounded the railroad, including how many  rail lines have become some of Connecticut’s best recreational trails used for biking, hiking, and running.

Recuperation journey: Sunrise means coffee time

I remember when I was little and I'd try a sip from my mother's coffee cup. I thought it was horrible! Never imagined I'd drink it when I grew up.
Amazing how things can grow on you.

Recuperation journey: Rabbit!

Happy March. 
When I was growing up my father always said Rabbit! for good luck on the first of the month. 

I've "learned" reading Facebook that many people say Rabbit, Rabbit! 

So which is it? Another question for the ages.
