Osborne Homestead Museum in Derby holding holiday decorating contest

A Christmas tree in the solarium was decorated one year in a butterfly theme.

DERBY - Although the Osborne Homestead Museum is closed due to COVID-19 and will not be decorated for the 2020 holiday season, curator Susan Robinson said the staff hopes to add some fun and cheer with a friendly online contest.  

The Osborne Homestead Museum’s Holiday Contest is an online contest of the decorations spanning from 2013’s Holiday in Connecticut to 2019’s Nature’s Friends Holiday.  

The contest will run from Dec. 3 to 15.

Decorators, garden clubs, and the public can participate and choose their favorite decorations and rooms in 15 different categories: 

Favorite Whimsical Decoration, Rustic/Country Scene, Ethereal Decoration, Costume for Child Mannequin, Rear Bathtub, Front Bathtub, Door Wreath, Porch Display, Most Informative, Mantel Display, Piano Display, Ingenious Use of Materials, Use of Historical Artifacts or Objects, Dining Room Display, and Solarium Tree.

Choose one favorite decoration/room per category.  

When finished, press the submit button at the bottom of the page.  

Multiple submissions are accepted.  

Vote once or vote every day and pick the same or different choices. First, second, and third place winners will receive giveaway prizes.  

The contest ends Dec. 15, and the winners will be announced on Dec. 22.  

Giveaway prizes will be mailed to the winners by Jan. 9, 2021.

The home of John and Ann Marie Checkley, 209 Wakelee Ave., took top honors in the annual contest.

  
ANSONIA - The Cultural Commission today announced winners of its House and Yard decorating contest.

Full disclosure: I was one of the judges as a member of the Valley Arts Council, along with arts council president Rich DiCarlo.
Several members of the city's Cultural Commission also took part in the judging of the 21 entries.

Congratulations go out to the following residents who won in their respective wards.

Overall Winner: John and Ann Marie Checkley, 209 Wakelee Ave.

Ansonia residents show spirit of season

Decorating contest draws 21 participants

ANSONIA - Congratulations go out to John and Ann Marie Checkley of 209 Wakelee Ave. for capturing the overall winner spot in the Cultural Commission's annual House and Yard Decorating Contest. 

Beautifully decked out properties in all seven Wards - including 20 homeowners and Charters Hose Company 4 firehouse - were entered into the annual competition judged by members of the Cultural Commission and the Valley Arts Council.

All eight winners will be honored at the Jan. 13 Board of Aldermen meeting in City Hall. 
They will receive a certificate of recognition and a gift certificate from local merchants, Cultural Commission chairman Judy Nicolari said.
