Volunteers recognized for cleaning up Ansonia on Earth Day

Earth Day cleanup volunteers gather at the Ansonia Armory Saturday prior to their sendoff.

ANSONIA - The city’s 2nd Annual Earth Day Cleanup proved even more successful than last year as more than 40 volunteers participated in cleaning 20 miles of city streets of paper, bottles, cans and more.
When the final numbers were tallied, (40) 50-gallon bags of debris totaling almost 1,000 pounds were picked up and carted off to Public Works. The totals represent about double the amount cleaned last year.
Mayor Dave Cassetti brought back Earth Day Cleanup last April after a several year lapse. “Litter is a top ten quality of life issue for residents,” Cassetti said.
“I just wish those who habitually litter had the same social concern as these volunteers.”
Nine groups of five volunteers each were outfitted with donated reflective vests, trash grabbers, and garbage bags, and assigned specific problem litter streets to cover.
Groups participating included Venture Crew 77 of Holy Rosary Church, Ansonia Boys/Girls Club, Ansonia High School, Reclaim Church, Macedonia Church, and several city residents.
After the cleanup, volunteers were treated to a cookout at the Nature Center pavilion and were joined by another 20 volunteers who were busy planting flowers and cleaning the center grounds of winter’s branches and leaves.

YEP group to participate in Earth Day Shelton Clean Sweep

SHELTON - Young Emerging Professionals and the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce will hold a cleanup day April 21.

Sharing info from a YEP Facebook event:

Help clean up litter from upper Commerce Drive by the Land Trust Open Space area and down towards the river leading upwards to Huntington Street. If there is enough help the cleanup will include lower Commerce Drive down to Bridgeport Avenue.

The City will provide gloves and bags and will pick up the trash bags we fill afterwards. PLUS they're giving out iron-on patches for those who participate so don't miss the chance for swag. Feel free to bring a friend or two! It would be awesome to cover the whole street.
Meeting Spot: 3 Corporate Drive parking lot looking out towards Commerce Drive - 9:45 a.m. so we can split up accordingly.

Let us know if you can attend so we can be sure to have enough supplies and swag for everyone!
