Par for Pink golf event in Oxford to benefit Valley Goes Pink


 

OXFORD - Griffin Health’s Valley Goes Pink initiative will host its 5th Annual Par for Pink golf fundraiser May 19 at The Golf Club at Oxford Greens.

The fundraiser will feature a 9-hole round of golf for women and men starting at 9 a.m. and lunch. Sponsorship opportunities range from $150 to $5,000, and foursomes start at $460. In-kind donations are welcome.
Proceeds will benefit breast cancer patients throughout the greater Valley community through new, transformative advancements in cancer care at Griffin Hospital.

Valley Goes Pink is a dynamic initiative that supports compassionate breast health care, early detection, education, and support for those affected by breast cancer in our community. Griffin Hospital annual 5K Walk/Run fundraiser slated Sept. 20

DERBY - The Annual 5K Walk/Run to benefit the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital, 350 Seymour Ave., will celebrate its 17th year Sept. 20.

This non-competitive, family-friendly event begins with day-of registration at 7:30 a.m., and starts at 9 a.m. 

D'Addario Automotive Group in Shelton is this year’s Presenting Sponsor.

Registration is $35 and includes a T-shirt. The registration fees will increase by $5 after Sept. 8. Pre-registration is encouraged at griffinhealth.org/5k.

Sponsorship opportunities include signage at the event, logos on the event promotional materials and T-shirts, recognition from the stage, and the opportunity to have a table to distribute products at the event.

All proceeds are dedicated to providing exceptional, personalized cancer care and to help ease the financial burden Griffin’s cancer patients face as they undergo treatment. 


The 5K draws walkers and runners from all over the Lower Naugatuck Valley, including participants from Derby, Ansonia, Shelton, Seymour, Oxford, Naugatuck, and all over the state. 

The 5k Walk/Run was started by the caregivers of the Cancer Center as a way to raise funds to purchase wigs for patients. 

The first Walk/Run exceeded expectations drawing over 250 participants and raising more than $25,000, providing opportunity for additional financial support for patients as they undergo cancer treatment. The 5K has drawn thousands of participants over the years and raised more than $890,000 to help support local cancer survivors in its 16-year history.


Participants can walk or run individually, form a team with their family, friends and co-workers, and collect pledges and payments. 

Awards will be presented to the top fundraising team and the top fundraising individual at the event. 

Participants can also purchase a commemorative sign for $100 to honor or memorialize a loved one that will be displayed at The Center for Cancer Care.

Seymour Pink to host A Pink Night to Remember at The Waterview in Monroe


Mark your calendars! This years A Pink Night to Remember is hosted In Honor of Colleen Fries, our Vice President, dear friend, and longtime chair of this very event, who passed away December 23. 

We celebrate our community's fight against breast cancer on Friday, March 22, 2024 at The Waterview in Monroe.
Tickets will go on sale on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 9 a.m. Tickets will remain the same price as last year at $95 per person.

Griffin Hospital in Derby to hold 5K Walk/Run to benefit the Center for Cancer Care

DERBY - The Annual 5K Walk/Run to benefit the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital will be back Sept. 25 as an in-person event to celebrate its 13th year. The Center is at 350 Seymour Ave.


This non-competitive, family-friendly event begins with day-of registration at 7:30 a.m., and the walk/run kicking off at 9 a.m.

BHcare seeks bowlers, sponsors for 32nd Bowl-2-Benefit in East Haven

EAST HAVEN - BHcare’s 32nd Annual Bowl-2-Benefit The Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services will be held March 7 at AMF Circles. 
All proceeds benefit UCDVS which provides services to over 7,700 victims of domestic violence and their children each year throughout Greater New Haven and the Lower Naugatuck Valley. 
UCDVS provides emergency safe shelter, 24-hour crisis services, counseling, court advocacy, support and other crucial services.

In 1988, we held our first B2B event and 32 years later, B2B is the largest event of its kind in the area! 
Year after year, we continue to raise awareness and funds for domestic violence services. And in 2020, we Bowl BACK-2-the-80s! That means we're bowling to the best 80s tunes and encourage you to come dressed in your awesomely 80s attire. Join us for family-friendly fun, raffle prizes, and a Blast from the Past Photobooth sponsored by Yale New Haven Health.

Bowlers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate in teams of 4-5, in one of five bowling sessions scheduled for 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Bowlers pay a minimal $10 registration fee and are asked to collect pledges to support their efforts. Each bowler will receive 90 minutes of bowling, event giveaway, shoe rental, and soft drinks.

DERBY -  Area businesses and community groups are invited to support The Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital 11th Annual 5K Walk/Run set for Sept. 28.

This community-based event has drawn thousands of participants and raised more than $490,000 in its 10-year history. 
The course winds through the streets of Derby and Ansonia near the Center for Cancer Care at 350 Seymour Ave., appealing to runners and walkers from throughout the Lower Naugatuck Valley and surrounding towns.

Proceeds from the event support area cancer survivors during their treatment by providing financial assistance for a variety needs, including housing, clothing and grocery bills, transportation, wigs, and complementary medical services (massage, acupuncture, etc.).

Sponsorship opportunities include signage at the event, logos on the event promotional materials and T-shirts, recognition from the stage, and the opportunity to have a table to distribute products at the event.

Boys & Girls Club in Shelton to host game night fundraiser



SHELTON - The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley is holding its annual Night at the Club fundraiser June 8, and all are invited. 

Come play like a Club kid! 
Challenge your friends to ping pong, pool, air hockey, foos ball, carpet ball, corn hole, Jenga, bumper pool and more.

Ride/Walk for Children at Quarry Walk in Oxford to benefit PCRC

OXFORD - Do you love cycling events? Do you like to walk? 
Do you want to support children and families in your community? 
If you said yes, you should join the Ride/Walk for Children at Quarry Walk!

PCRC provides innovative mental health services, prevention and early intervention programs for more than 900 children and families in the Valley and beyond. 

The Ride/Walk for Children at Quarry Walk will take place June 9 at 300 Oxford Road. 
The event features 15, 36 or 50 mile bike routes plus a new MEGA 35 mile bike challenge and a 2k walk. 
This year’s walk is in honor of Wade Michael Prajer. A loving son, brother, nephew, grandson, and friend, Wade’s life was tragically cut short at the age of 22. 
While nothing will ever replace the light Wade brought to his community, PCRC will honor his life while raising awareness and resources to provide help and restore hope to others in crisis.

This year’s event also features a FREE Family Fun Fest that includes a bounce house, Touch-a-Truck, live music, food, beverages, yard games and a special performance by 12-time National Champion Stunt Bike Rider Mike Steidley. 

Participants are encouraged to form teams and collect donations online.

BHcare seeks sponsors, participants for Bowl-2-Benefit in Milford

31st annual fundraiser slated 
MILFORD - BHcare’s 31st Annual Bowl-2-Benefit (B2B) The Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services will be held March 3 at Bowlero, 1717 Boston Post Road. 

All proceeds benefit UCDVS which provides services to over 6,000 victims of domestic violence and their children each year throughout Greater New Haven and the Lower Naugatuck Valley.

Boy & Girls Club to host golf classic at Brownson Country Club in Shelton

SHELTON - The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley will host its annual John “Red” Larsen Golf Classic Aug. 27 at Brownson Country Club.

The tournament will have an 11 a.m. registration and lunch, followed by a noon shotgun start.

The Boys & Girls Club Golf Classic, which has run 45 consecutive years since 1972, is dedicated to John “Red” Larsen. 
Red participated in almost every tournament and was Chairman for more than half. It was common to see Red stuffing “tee-favor bags” on Sunday night or putting out sponsor signs in the morning mist. 
His love for children and his dedication to the Boys & Girls Club were rivaled only by his love for his family and the game of golf.

The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley has been changing the lives of young people in our area for 60 years. 
With programs ranging from homework assistance to nutrition, to sports, all young people are helped to reach their full potential, but especially those from disadvantaged circumstances.
