Recuperation journey: Saying goodbye for now, see you soon

Write what you know. That's the sage advice I was given many years ago. Sounds simplistic, but it works! 

Today what I know is I keep thinking about a class I belong to, and a small farewell party we had for our instructor last evening. She is the kind of teacher who makes time to give everyone in the class individualized attention.

Now she is transitioning to another career, one that will last a lifetime! 
You guessed it, motherhood.

Everyone in the class - most of us are mothers - is so happy for her and her husband. 
We're ready to give her the wisdom of our experience, if she wants it! 

I wanted to publicly wish her all the best as she embarks on a new journey.

Recuperation journey: Back to Brooklyn

Happy to report our son, Cameron, who had an accident riding his bike on a beautiful Sunday in October and needed surgery to repair a broken hip, is back to his apartment in Brooklyn. 
Yesterday was the big day. 
I was happy for him but sad for me. I certainly got used to him being here. We celebrated Halloween, his birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's with him at home.

I'm grateful he is much, much better after eight weeks of physical therapy at Griffin Hospital in Derby. 
I watched the whole process and the therapists who worked with him were amazing! I want to give a big shout-out to all of them, and thank them for everything. 
They gave him exercises and he followed them at home, which of course also helped hasten his recuperation journey. I hope he continues to do them. 
Cameron went from using a walker, to crutches, to one crutch, to a cane. He didn't need the cane around the house, but will need it for a while when he is out in public.

Author to discuss parenthood journey at Ansonia Library

ANSONIA - Author Gilda Simpkin will discuss her memoir, “My Baby Chase: Our Roller Coaster Ride from Infertility to Parenthood,” at 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Ansonia Library.

The book depicts the serious and sometimes hilarious aspects of fertility treatments through two hair-raising international adoptions.

The adoptions are fraught with unpredictable birth mothers, unreliable baby brokers, media competitions, midnight crank calls and repeatedly changing government regulations and strangling red tape. 

Their journey has so many surprising twists and cliffhangers it reads like a suspense novel which will keep readers at the edge of their seats. All of this takes place against the backdrop of pressure from her aging holocaust survivor parents eager for a grandchild.

Join Simpkin as she discusses her memoir of her harrowing 20-year quest to become a mother. Copies of her book will be available for purchase.
