Story time slated Wednesday at Derby-Shelton Rotary Club Pavilion

SHELTON - Plumb Memorial Library will once again host “Outdoor Library Story Time” from 9:15-10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club Pavilion for children 0-5 years old and their caregivers. The pavilion is at 38 Canal St. E.

Story Time Friends will enjoy books, music and movement in this shaded, open-aired pavilion.

Participants please bring something to sit on: a blanket, a towel, or portable chair.
This program is outside. Sometimes it can be cool there, please bring a light sweater or jacket.
There are NO bathrooms at the pavilion, please plan accordingly.
Parking is located either beside the curb or in the parking lot beside the Conti Building.
Caregivers must remain with their child for program duration.

If it rains, the story time is canceled for that day.

Friends of the Shelton Libraries to sponsor Jedi training sessions for children

SHELTON - There still are plenty of spots left for Jedi Training with Kessel Temple on Aug. 12!

Come learn the ways of the Force with the Jedi from Kessel Temple! 

This event will be held at the Derby-Shelton Rotary Pavilion (weather permitting). Each CHILD must register individually. Caregivers must remain with children for the duration of the program.

*In case of rain, program will be held in the Shelton Community Center gymnasium.  Sponsored by Friends of the Shelton Libraries.*

Participants will enjoy stories, music, movement and each child will receive a to-go craft! **If it rains, story time is canceled for that day.

Registration required for CHILDREN 0-5 years old, please ONLY register children.

Plumb Memorial Library's Children's Librarian Miss Maura will read stories, engage children and caregivers in movement and provide to-go activities!

These story times will be on Thursdays, Aug.11, 18, and 25 from 10-11 a.m. outside at the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club Pavilion, 38 Canal St. East.

Plumb Memorial Library to host Lego Challenge at Rotary Club Pavilion in Shelton

Ages: Children ages 5-13

Location: Derby-Shelton Rotary Club Pavilion, 38 Canal St. East, Shelton

Date/Time: July 6, 2-3 p.m.

Have a unique ability to turn a pile of Legos into something unique? Put your building skills to the test! Plumb Memorial Library introduces a one-of-a-kind construction program.

Each registered child will be provided with a Lego baseplate, a bag of Legos and a Lego challenge card to borrow for the program duration. The object is to build all the challenges on your card in 1 hour! Caregivers must remain with their child for program duration.

Connect: English Language Learners Conversation Café.

This welcoming program will provide an opportunity for individuals learning English to practice through casual dialogue and games.

The location of these programs will be at the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club Pavilion, 38 Canal St. East, Shelton.

The program dates will be: Fridays: April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 AND Fridays: May 6, 13, 20 from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

No registration is needed. This is a drop-in program.

These are geared toward adults, however if an adult would like to bring a child, the adult must remain with their child for program duration. Light refreshments will be provided.

Please bring a chair to sit on and dress for the outdoors. There are no bathrooms at the pavilion, please plan accordingly. If it rains, the program is canceled for that day.

Shelton Libraries’ Summer Reading Program: “Around the World in 60 Days”!

This program is geared toward children 1-12 years old and their caregivers. Registration is required for each individual attending the performance.

Registration open for Thanksgiving Day 5K in Shelton, Derby

The Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day 5K Road Race offers a great, early morning run through the historic downtowns of Shelton and Derby. The race is finished in plenty of time to get to the annual Shelton-Derby football game, then on to your Thanksgiving Day celebrations.

This popular race has become a noted and looked for Valley event every Thanksgiving and sells out quickly. 
The race has become so successful that the number of timed runners has been increased several times, and is now limited to 800. Registration closes as soon as that limit is reached, and no registrations are taken on race day. 

​

Awards are presented to the first place male and female runners overall, and the top three male and female finishers in each division. Special awards go to the top three male and female runners in the High School Division. 

​

Fast Track Timing LLC provides Disposable Bib Chip Technology. Race results are available almost instantaneously with their mobile app for IOS devices. 

​

High-quality shirts are provided to all registrants, as well as great "goody bags" for the first 500 registered runners. 

​

The Farmer's Market on Canal Street and the spacious Derby-Shelton Rotary Club Pavilion in Veteran's Park serve as race headquarters wth plenty of delicious refreshments available before and after the race.
