The Thanksgiving 5K is an early morning run through the historic downtowns of Shelton and Derby.
Runners are finished in plenty of time to get to the annual Shelton-Derby football game then on to Thanksgiving Day celebrations.
It is open to grammar school students through seniors.
Awards to first place male and female runners overall and the top three male and female finishers in each division. Bib chip timing through Fast Track Timing LLC.
High quality race shirts provided to all registrants, as well as "goody bags" for first 500 registered runners.

Club unveils new logo for Thanksgiving Day 5K race in Shelton, Derby

SHELTON - The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley has unveiled the new design for its Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day 5K Road Race. 
Created by Peralta Design of Shelton, the new logo provides a fresh look while keeping a connection to the race’s namesake.
Registration is still open for the race but closes automatically at 800 registrations. 
Grammar and high school students receive a discounted rate of $10 and seniors (age 70+) run free of charge (but must register). All other runners are $25. 
If space is still available, registration fees for all runners goes up to $30 on Nov. 20. Registration is nonrefundable; however, should something change and you can’t run, you can transfer your registration to another runner for a $5 fee.

Divisions are (male and female): 18-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-69. Special Divisions: Grammar School, High School, Holstein (male - 200 pound minimum, female – 160 pound minimum), and 70 and over. Disposable bib chip technology will once again be provided by Fast Track Timing, LLC, and race results will be available almost instantaneously through their phone app.

Awards will be presented to the first-place male and female runners overall, and the top three male and female finishers in each division. Special awards will go to the top three male and female runners in the High School Division.
Race packet pickup will be held at the Boys & Girls Club at One Positive Place Nov. 18 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and Nov. 21 from 4-7 p.m. 
Runners are strongly encouraged to pick their packets up on these days. Goody bags are guaranteed to the first 500 runners to pick up their race bibs.
Greco & Haines, flagship sponsor since 2002, will once again provide a quality race shirt to all the runners.
Diane Stroman has been named honorary starter of this year’s race. Diane has served our community for more than 35 years and retired this year as Vice President of TEAM, Inc. 
She is deeply passionate and very knowledgeable about the community’s needs. Stroman lives in Ansonia, where she grew up and has two children and two grandsons.

Jimmy Tickey, chair of the race committee, says, "I am thrilled to serve as Chair of our Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day Road Race in downtown Shelton. Every year, about 800 runners - with their friends and family cheering them on - join us on Thanksgiving morning for a special 5k road race. Registration opens for Commodore Hull 5K race in Shelton, Derby

A Thanksgiving Day tradition since 2002

Registration is now open for the 2018 Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day 5K Road Race.

The registered runners have been increased from 750 to 800 this year, and online registration will close as soon as that limit is reached. There will be no registrations taken on race day.
Registration fees have been kept at their same low $25 level again this year. Grammar and high school runners receive a discount and register for $10. Our 70+ runners get an even better deal - they register free of charge.

Registration fees for all runners goes up to $30 on Nov. 20.

Road closures listed in Shelton, Derby for Thanksgiving Day 5K race

The course of the 16th annual Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day 5K Road Race runs through the historic downtowns of Derby and Shelton. It starts and finishes along the Shelton Riverwalk.

There will be several road closures while the race is taking place. 

The race begins at the Farmer's Market on Canal Street in Shelton at 8 a.m. It also ends there.

During the race, Canal Street will be closed to traffic from Wharf, Hill, and Cornell Streets. There will be one lane of traffic open on Howe Avenue (Route 110) between Cornell Street and Bridge Street. 

The bridge between Derby and Shelton will be closed. ​

​In Derby, Main Street (Route 34) will be closed between Olivia and Elizabeth Streets, with detours during the race. 

Access to Elizabeth Street from Main Street up to the Derby Public Library at Seymour Avenue will also be limited during the race.

Boys & Girls Club 'crew' named starters for Commodore Hull 5K race

SHELTON - The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley has announced the Commodore Hull “crew” members have been named official starters for the 2017 Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day 5K Road Race. 

The Boys & Girls Club, long-time beneficiary of the race, officially took over production of the 5K this year.

Most of the crew hail from Derby High School: Jack Walsh (1964); Nick and Diana Serednitsky (1969); Glenn Gaetano, Dave Grant, and John Saccu (1970); and Markanthony Izzo (1976). Shelton High School alum include Pam Petro and John Pawlowski (1981) and Carl Sylvester (1951). Tom Wilson (1981) and Laura Wilson (1984) represent St. Joseph’s High School, and Vera Gaetano (1979) attended Byron-Bergen High School in New York.

The crew has great pride in the Valley, and it was a natural choice to tap them as the starters of this year’s race. For the past 15 years, these volunteers have worked nearly year round to ensure the success of the 5K, which has become a noted and looked-for Valley event every Thanksgiving. 
The popularity of the race spurred the organizers to expand the number of timed runners several times; the current cap is 750.
