Event at Griffin in Derby focuses on breast density, mammograms
Griffin Hospital hosted a press conference Friday to draw attention to legislation introduced by U.S. Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro, D-New Haven, the Breast Density and Mammography Reporting Act.

Series for women continues at Derby Public Libary
on the first Monday of each month. The next session will be held Nov. 3.
These sessions offer women an informal opportunity to come together to learn
how to enhance the quality of their lifestyle, share challenges and joys with other women,
provide support to one another, spend time with old friends, and make new friends.
The series is facilitated by Valley resident Joan Joyce.

Ansonia ready to host harvest fest fun
Ansonia Public Works employee Mike Eheman Friday morning straightens out a twisted banner that is strung across Main Street to advertise Saturday's harvest festival.
Ansonia Cultural Commission Chairwoman Judy Nicolari wants everyone to know that the city's 11th annual harvest festival is on for Saturday, rain or shine.

Dr. Mark Melendez, a plastic surgeon at Griffin Hospital, discusses breast cancer awareness and advanced breast reconstruction techniques at Thursday's meeting. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Troupe to present murder mystery at Shelton Senior Center

The Friends of the Shelton Libraries will host Marrone’s Murder Takes the Cake at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Shelton Senior Center, 81 Meadow St.
Marrone's play features local actors. The murder will happen before a buffet-style dinner, which allows discussion and guesses on who the murderer was. Those who guess the murderer correctly can win a prize.
The catered dinner is from Trattoria Roma; diners may bring their own bottles. During dinner, the actors will lay out the drama and leave the diners to debate the clues.
Prizes will be offered to those who select the murderer.
Ticket are $30 per person; arrange a table with your friends to up the ante.
Tickets are on sale now at both Plumb Memorial Library, Huntington Branch Library, and the Friends' website, www.FOTSL.org.
