Griffin, Agency on Aging to host heart-health bingo for seniors in February


Griffin Health and the Agency on Aging of South-Central Connecticut will host fun and educational programs on heart health for Valley seniors this February.

Griffin Health Director of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Richard Le Pera, MPH, CCRP, will lead Boost Your Heart Health, a free discussion of the basics of heart health followed by games of heart-healthy bingo. 

Griffin Health caregivers will also offer free blood pressure screenings and consultation. 

The presentations are scheduled for Feb. 2 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Seymour Senior Center, Feb. 5 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Ansonia Senior Center, Feb. 25 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Shelton Senior Center, and Feb. 26 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Derby Neck Library.


These offerings are part of the AgeWell program, which is co-sponsored by Griffin Health and the Agency on Aging of South-Central Connecticut to increase access to care and prevent disease in the Valley senior community through a series of health screenings and healthy living education sessions each month. Periodically, this program provides nutritiously balanced and delicious foods for attendees.

Masonicare at Wesley Heights in Shelton to offer Alzheimer’s Association series

SHELTON - Masonicare at Wesley Heights is proud to partner with the Alzheimer’s Association this spring to offer "The Empowered Caregiver," an educational series designed to empower caregivers in navigating the responsibilities of caring for someone living with dementia. 

Attendees will receive valuable tips on understanding key aspects of caregiving, managing finances, supporting independence, communicating effectively, responding to dementia-related behaviors, and exploring available care and support services.

Join us for this three-part series on Tuesday evenings in May from 5:30-7 p.m.

  • Tuesday, May 13: Supporting Independence

  • Tuesday, May 20: Communicating Effectively

  • Tuesday, May 27: Exploring Care and Support Services

    All sessions will take place at Masonicare at Wesley Heights, an independent and assisted living community, located at 580 Long Hill Ave. A light dinner will be provided. Attendance at all three sessions is encouraged but not required. Register for one, two or all three sessions by contacting Lisa Bisson at lbisson@masonicare.org or 203-225-5027.     Individuals interested in learning more about Masonicare’s memory support community, Lifestyle Transitions at Wesley Heights, are invited to arrive early on May 20 for a brief tour and an introduction to the community’s dementia care program. Derby Neck Library to host 'The Roots of Black Music in America' program

If you enjoy music and history, you're going to love this! 

Karlus Trapp’s delightful, educational, and entertaining presentation ”The Roots of Black Music in America” is a 100-year journey back through time to hear, experience anew, and learn about the music of America’s black musical giants, like Diana Ross and the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Chuck Berry, and many more! 

It is a joyful show that encourages and comes alive through audience participation and interaction with singing, dancing, call and response and percussion playing. Please be warned: If you join this show, you may find yourself uncontrollably smiling, singing or humming for hours afterward! This is an all-ages program; the more the merrier!
