Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley to hold golf tourney in Orange

8-10 a.m. - Registration & Driving Range

10 a.m. - Shotgun Start

Followed by Awards & BBQ Lunch


The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley has been changing the lives of young people in our area for 65 years. 

Proceeds from this charity golf tournament will help us provide services regardless of a family’s ability to pay. Thank you for helping us help those who need us most!

Luncheon to benefit The Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital in Derby



ORANGE - The 19th Annual Hope Lives benefit luncheon will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 25 at Race Brook Country Club, 246 Derby Ave.


The full course luncheon will help promote breast cancer awareness and raise funds to support programs offered by The Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital in Derby. 

The programs focus on breast health education, prevention, and treatment. 

The event will feature raffles, a silent auction, a dessert station, and the presentation of the Hope Lives Award, which honors an individual who is making a difference in the fight against breast cancer.

“I’m very proud and honored to continue to make a difference in the Valley and for women in need of a free mammogram,” said Hope Lives Founder Maria Ammar. “Many members of my family have been affected by cancer and others battled breast cancer and are no longer with us.

"This event is a labor of love as I believe that one day we will find a cure for cancer,” Ammar said.

Mohegan Tribe chairman to address Valley Chamber annual meeting

On behalf of Chamber Chairman George Mitchell, Jr. and the Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce the 54th Annual Meeting of the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce will be held from 7:30-9 a.m. June 22 at Race Brook Country Club [246 Derby Ave., Orange].

Keynote speaker is Kevin Brown "Red Eagle," chairman of the Mohegan Tribe.
Brown is responsible for maintaining the Tribe's sovereignty, overseeing its numerous business entities and ensuring the well-being of its more than 2,100 Tribal citizens. 

He also serves as Chairman of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, which oversees numerous gaming entities across the country as well as two professional sports teams. 

Under his leadership, the Mohegan Tribe has made monumental steps in its business growth and expanded its footprint worldwide. 
Recently, the Tribe announced plans to construct a multi-million dollar, non-gaming tourist destination in the southeastern part of the state. 
The Tribe has extended its reach into the Valley with two business enterprises: 
KOTA, a Mohegan LDI Enterprise, a premium provider of digital office technology solutions, and Arooga's Grille House and Sports Bar scheduled to open in June in Shelton.
A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Brown served in the United States Army for 25 years, retiring as a highly-decorated Colonel. 
He serves on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut and is Chairman of the American Heart Association Heart Walk.

BHcare to hold fundraiser at Race Brook Country Club in Orange

ORANGE - BHcare’s An Evening Under the Stars will be held from 6:30-11:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Race Brook Country Club in Orange. 

The evening will begin with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and music on the veranda overlooking the beautiful vista and fall colors. 

As the event progresses, guests will enjoy star gazing guided by amateur astronomers while enjoying fine food, music, dancing, and auctions. 

Tickets are $100 each and are selling quickly.

Decreases in state funding coupled with increases in demand for services make fundraising events such as this critical to sustaining services for those at risk and in need.
