K of C to host free throw contest at Assumption School in Ansonia

ANSONIA - The Knights of Columbus Council 23 will host a free throw contest from 1-3 p.m. Jan. 13 at Assumption School gym, 51 North Cliff St.
The contest is for girls and boys ages 9 to 14 as of Jan. 1.
Parental consent and proof of age are required to compete.

Winners will receive prizes and move on to advanced levels of competition.

Pet first aid class slated at Griffin Hospital in Derby

DERBY - Join us for one of our popular Pet First Aid Classes being hosted from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Jan. 27 by the People and Animals Working in Spirit (PAWS) therapy dog group at Griffin Hospital. 

Come meet the EARS Team and learn about the work we do responding to medical emergencies and technical rescues involving animals in our community, stay for our Pet First Aid class from noon-1 p.m. which will include a multimedia presentation and hands-on learning, then join us for a Q&A session where you'll have the chance to ask your questions of our team! 

Registration is required, but this program is open to all ages. Stay tuned for information on how to register. 
There is a $10 per person suggested donation; all contributions will go to help EARS continue its pet response mission.

Recuperation journey: Waiting for eggshells

Another morning, another blue jay. With five of them around the yard lately it is getting easy to capture a photo. 
I just realized it's the same pose as yesterday...maybe it's the same bird. 

They must have gotten the eggshells I threw out yesterday because there are footprints and holes in the snow.

Hmm ... maybe I will have an egg for breakfast. I should feed my newfound friends.

NHSO to perform free concert at Shelton Intermediate School

SHELTON - The New Haven Symphony Orchestra will perform Babar the Elephant at 2 pm. Jan. 21 at Shelton Intermediate School.

Pianist William Braun will play Francis Poulenc’s whimsical L’Histoire de Babar while Really Inventive Stuff’s vaudeville actor Michael Boudewyns will return to narrate the tale about the King of the Elephants.

Shelton Intermediate School is at 675 Constitution Boulevard North.
