Managing holiday meals topic of talk at Griffin Hospital in Derby

DERBY - The Diabetes Education & Support Group at Griffin Hospital will host two free talks about managing holiday meals at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the hospital, 130 Division St.
Certified Diabetes Educator Mary Swansiger, BSN, MPH, will present “Managing Holiday Meals,” an open discussion featuring a holiday meal survival guide and strategies for making the holidays healthier and happier.

Both talks will be in the hospital’s Childbirth Education Classroom B. There is free valet parking for the 2:30 p.m. session.

The Diabetes Education & Support Group meets September - June on the second Tuesday of each month to discuss the management of diabetes, its challenges, and day-to-day dietary concerns. Individuals with diabetes and their caregivers are welcome to attend.
No registration is required.

SEYMOUR - The Seymour Land Conservation Trust will hold an open house from 1-5 p.m. Saturday at Legion Pool, 13 Chatfield St.

Spend some time with longtime members and get their perspective on the history of the Seymour Land Conservation Trust.

This is a free event; snacks and beverages will be provided.

Seymour Land Conservation Trust is a non-profit conservation organization committed to maintaining open land in and around the Town of Seymour. 
New members always welcome.

Derby Neck Library to host talk about Civil War


DERBY - The Civil War in the West will be the topic of a talk by Hamish Lutris, Associate Professor of History at Housatonic Community College, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Derby Neck Library.

Lutris will guide attendees through an ill-fated Confederate expedition in 1862 to gain a path to the West and its mineral riches. 
Kit Carson defends the area for the Union Army.

The Library is at 307 Hawthorne Ave.
