SHELTON - Plumb Memorial Library will welcome Dr. Adam Driesman at 2 p.m. April 17 to discuss hip and knee pain.

Driesman is a fellowship-trained adult hip and knee surgeon who focuses on treating people of all ages who suffer from debilitating hip or knee conditions.

Throughout his training, Dr. Driesman performed over 1,000 procedures, ranging from minimally invasive hip arthroscopy to complex knee revisions. He treats each patient as an individual, not a diagnosis.

His passion for medicine, dedication to a patient’s well-being, and commitment to excellence are central to his values.

Plumb Memorial Library in Shelton to host lecture on Sept. 11 attack, aftermath

SHELTON - Plumb Memorial Library welcomes guest lecturer Edgar Domenech, Special Agent in charge of the World Trade Center, as he presents “9-11 and Its Aftermath” at  6:30 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Library Meeting Room.

Edgar will discuss the importance of training and preparation prior to any critical incident. 

He will present the actions taken by the men and women assigned to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives New York Office, located at 6 WTC on 9/11 and afterwards from rescue to recovery efforts.
This perspective will be based on his role as the Special Agent in Charge of that office.

SHELTON - Plumb Memorial Library welcomes back the “Bowtie Historian” Jason Scappaticci to present a special program on the history of the 1964 New York World’s Fair.

He will take us on a trip down memory lane to a time gone by.

With the motto “Peace Through Understanding”, the 1964–1965 New York World’s Fair held over 140 pavilions and 110 restaurants, representing 80 nations (hosted by 37), 24 US states, and over 45 corporations.

It covered 646 acres with numerous pools or fountains, and an amusement park with rides.

Fondly remembered today by many who grew up in the Tri-State area, the 1964/65 New York World’s Fair attracted 50 million visitors, and it wasn’t even an officially sanctioned world’s fair.

SEYMOUR - Seymour Public Library will host a free, in-person lecture, Maximizing Space in the Garden - Creating More of a Good Thing by Tovah Martin at 1 p.m. March 11.

No matter if you're gardening in a close-knit neighborhood or a vast area, you want to garden efficiently, prolifically, sustainably, and beautifully. This lecture focuses on all the points on your checklist.

Martin is an avid gardener and the author of many gardening books.

She has appeared on numerous television shows including the Martha Stewart show, a PBS television series, and the CBS Sunday Early Show.

Derby Historical Society to host virtual lecture on The Narrows in Derby

 

The Narrows, a history lecture with Dr. Joe DiRienzo, will be held from 2-3 p.m. Feb. 27.

From its inception, and over the course of its early development, Derby residents recognized various geographical sections of the town colloquially referred to as Old Town (or Uptown), the North End, the Hill, and the Landing.

In this lecture, we will look at some of the prominent historical features of one of the oldest sections of the town known as the Narrows.
