Learn to play Mahjong on Wednesdays at Derby Neck Library


 

DERBY - Beginning on Wednesday, October 8, we're hosting a brand new Mahjong Meetup! 

Join us [at Derby Neck Library] on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month at 12 p.m. for a casual, low-stakes, and totally stress free mahjong game, perfect for beginners. Bring your own tiles if you have them, or share the library's new sets with other players.

The Library is at 307 Hawthorne Ave.

DERBY - Join us [at Derby Neck Library] for the rescheduled session of "How to DND: Character Creation" from 3-4 p.m.Thursday, July 10.

Dive into the exciting world of Dungeons & Dragons and learn how to create your unique character.

Whether you're new to the game or just need help making a character, this session is for you!

Osborne Homestead Museum in Derby slates mystery game fun


DERBY - Join the fun at the Osborne Homestead Museum and solve the mystery to find Osbornedale Ivanhoe! 

“Where is Ivanhoe?” mystery game will be held indoors at the Osborne Homestead Museum on Dec. 27 and 28 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. 

This will be a free, family-friendly event, and participants can play the game at their own pace. Participants will go to the Osborne Homestead Museum to get a map and directions.

Huntington Branch Library to hold Nintendo Switch Night for tweens, teens


Tween/Teen Nintendo Switch Night: Gang Beasts

SHELTON -Tweens/teens ages 10 and over can join us from 4:45-5:45 p.m Feb. 23 at the Huntington Branch Library for an hour of hard hitting fun as we play Gang Beasts on the Nintendo Switch!
Caregivers with children under the age of 12 must stay in the library for the duration of the program.

Derby Neck Library to host virtual Animal Crossing Meet-Up Saturday


DERBY - Derby Neck Library staff invites Tweens and teens to join them on Nintendo Switch for some relaxation and in-game socializing. 
We'll fish and catch bugs together, visit each other's islands and shops, and play hide-and-seek games! 
There's always some fun surprises waiting at Derby Neck Island as well...

Derby High School softball team raises $3,000 for Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness

DERBY -The Derby High School softball team recently presented Griffin Health Assistant Vice President of Diagnostic Services Christine Cooper and Griffin Hospital President/ CEO Patrick Charmel with a $3,000 donation to The Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital.

The funds were raised at Derby High School’s 10th Annual Pink Softball Game held in May against Oxford High School. 

Organized by long-time Griffin Hospital employee and Derby High School Softball Coach Joe DiMartino, the fundraiser is held in honor of his wife, Lori, a breast cancer survivor.

Overall, the annual event has raised a total of more than $30,000 to help breast cancer patients in the greater Valley community.


Located at 300 Seymour Ave. The Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital offers patients a comprehensive range of personalized breast care and wellness services.

Derby Neck Library hosts virtual trading card game club on Mondays









"Have your cards on hand if you own any, but just like our in-person version, they are not necessary--you just need a love of all things Pokémon! 
Join us [at Derby Neck Library from 4-5:30 p.m. Monday] for a look at some of the newest cards, "Who's that Pokémon", and more! Afterwards, players who have their own decks can split off into separate meeting rooms to battle!

Shelton Library System slates Animal Crossing fun for Teens and Tweens Thursday


SHELTON - Tweens and teens can join Miss Jessica from Huntington Branch Library at 2:30 p.m. Thursday on her Animal Crossing island for an hour of play!
Come trade DIYs, gather bugs, fish, dive, collect fossils, and grab mystery items!

**Patrons must have a Nintendo Switch, a copy of the game Animal Crossing, and an active Internet connection on the Switch to participate**
Patrons must register with an email address to receive a Zoom Meeting ID and password prior to the beginning of the program, where Miss Jessica will go over rules and expectations.

Derby Neck Library to host Magic:The Gathering Club via Zoom


DERBY - Derby Neck Library invites Teens and tweens to play the collectible fantasy card game Magic: The Gathering with friends over Zoom at  6:30 p.m. Dec. 2.

Players who do not have their own decks are encouraged to create a free account with Magic: The Gathering Arena to play each other online, but be sure to play through the tutorial ahead of time - otherwise, you won't be able to play anyone during the meeting!
