Ansonia superintendent announces schools closed until Jan. 10

Seymour to distribute limited number of COVID test kits Tuesday

This is the text of Seymour First Selectwoman Annmarie Drugonis' COVID testing kit update today via Code Red:
"This morning we received a smaller than anticipated allotment of COVID testing kits from the State.
Given the extremely limited number of testing kits available, we are asking that only those currently experiencing symptoms come to the distribution event.
That drive-through event will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 4 from 5-7 p.m. at Seymour High School. Proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or addressed piece of mail, will be required to receive a test. Each vehicle will be given one box with two tests inside.
There is an even more limited supply of testing kits will be reserved for the medically vulnerable. If you are medically vulnerable, please reach out to my office at (203) 888-2511, extension 2.
There will not be enough testing kits for everyone. Both the event tomorrow and the testing kits reserved for the medically vulnerable will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis. We understand that it is very difficult to find a test at the moment. We ask that you look out for your neighbors and consider those who are at elevated risk.
We appreciate your continue patience, understanding and partnership."

Sharing tonight's post on City of Ansonia Facebook page:

Good evening residents of the great City of Ansonia!

Mayor David S. Cassetti is announcing important update on Ansonia’s distribution of free, at-home COVID rapid tests.
Ansonia has finally received its share of rapid tests, and our rescheduled Distribution event will occur THIS MONDAY AT NOLAN FIELD, FROM NOON UNTIL 3PM. We will also be distributing N95 masks, while supplies last.
Line-up for the event will begin no earlier than 11:30 am. Nolan Field’s parking lot will be closed until 11:30 am, and on-street parking will NOT be allowed prior.
Please understand that our supplies are extremely limited. Therefore, we are asking that only SYMPTOMATIC RESIDENTS participate in this distribution event, to ensure that those in need of tests receive them.
Each household will be provided with 2 test kits. Additionally, we will be distributing free N95 masks – 5 per household— so long as supplies last.
Remember to bring proof of Ansonia residency, such as a driver’s license or photo ID. This event is for residents of Ansonia ONLY.
And again, that’s noon to 3 p.m. this Monday, January 3, at Nolan Field, 333 Wakelee Avenue.
Thank you for your patience during this difficult time.God Bless You and Your Family on this first day of the New Year!

Town staff and volunteers will distribute testing kits to Seymour residents on a first-come, first-serve basis, free of charge on Thursday, Dec. 30 from 4-6 p.m. at Seymour High School.

If all tests are distributed, we will close early.

Tests will be distributed to Seymour residents only.

Berthel opposes extension of Lamont''s emergency powers

HARTFORD- State Sen. Eric Berthel, R-32,  Tuesday issued a statement on the Senate's passage of a Democratic resolution extending Gov. Ned Lamont's COVID emergency executive powers through Feb. 15, 2022.

This is the sixth time that these powers have been extended, which will now total nearly two years of state government under the emergency executive authority of Governor Lamont.

“It is time to move on. Our state boasts the highest vaccination rate in the nation, a fact of which Governor Lamont continues to be vocal. Meanwhile, the state is kicking off a $1.4 million fall season marketing campaign, enticing out-of-state residents to visit Connecticut's local attractions, hotels, restaurants and other public places. These conflicting messages defy logic. If we are truly in a public health emergency, the legislature has proven to be capable of convening in short order to debate and vote on policies relative to public health or otherwise," said Berthel.

"These debates and decisions must be made in the 'People's House' by their elected representatives; not by unilateral edicts from a Governor and select individuals. Today, I voted 'no' on this measure, as I have done each time it has come before the legislature. I will continue to use my seat to support the ideals of co-equal branches of government, which allow the collective voices of those in the 32nd District to be heard."

The resolution, which passed the House on Monday, cleared the Senate 18-15 with three absent.

Berthel represents Connecticut's 32nd Senatorial District, which includes Bethlehem, Bridgewater, Middlebury, Oxford, Roxbury, Seymour, Southbury, Washington, Watertown, and Woodbury. www.senatorberthel.com
