Ansonia man, 33, charged in shooting on Sixth Street - Updated with photo

ANSONIA - Police Sunday arrested Melvin Burroughs, 33, of Ansonia for his involvement in a shooting that day on Sixth Street. 

Burroughs had been in a verbal dispute with two other males when Burroughs allegedly fired multiple shots at them, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a written statement. 


No one was struck by the gunshots; however, a vehicle, shed, and garbage cans were struck by the gunfire. 

Burroughs is a convicted felon and prohibited from owning or possessing firearms. 

Burroughs was charged with two counts of Criminal Attempt at Assault First Degree, two counts of Reckless Endangerment First Degree, Threatening First Degree, Unlawful Discharge, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and Criminal Mischief Third Degree. Burroughs posted a $150,000 bond and will be arraigned in Milford Superior Court April 12.

 

During a search warrant at Burroughs’ residence, officers and detectives recovered three handguns, an AR15 rifle, a flame-thrower, assorted ammunition and gun parts. Additional charges are expected to be filed against Burroughs related to the firearms recovered during the search of his residence.
