Ansonia Library recruiting Teen Advisory Board members

ANSONIA - Join the Ansonia Library's Teen Advisory Board and collaborate with us by:

• giving advice on new programs;
• recommending items for the teen collection;
• input on summer reading incentives;
• assisting with programs and special projects.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?

• TAB membership is open to Ansonia residents ages 13-18 with parental permission;
• Try to attend quarterly meetings during the year to learn about the many volunteer opportunities offered;
• Participate in at least three special volunteer opportunities offered each year to stay a current member.

The Library is at 53 S. Cliff St.

Ansonia Police Department welcomes 4 new members

The Ansonia Police Department would like to introduce our newest members, Brendan Sullivan, Caroline Hayward, Carlos Rosas, and Michael Bartunek. 

They will be starting the academy at the end of this month.

DERBY - Griffin Hospital recently welcomed the newest members to a council of community members that help the hospital meet its mission for exceptional, person-centered care.

Laurel May and Larry Dobitas of Trumbull, and Louis Watson of Milford, joined Griffin Hospital’s Patient Family Advisory Council this year.

The Council is designed to provide valuable patient/family insight to care and services provided. As either former patients themselves or family members of patients, the 14-member Council is charged with providing real-time feedback/insight with the goal of enhancing hospital services and programs. 
The Council partners with the hospital to assist in maintaining its patient-center care focus.

Each month, members learn about various hospital programs and services through presentations, receive hospital updates on performance metrics such as patient experience, safety, financial and projects and provides input/options on new programs and services under consideration and share feedback. 

Current members include: Ansonia residents Horace Behrle, Fran DiGiorgi, Nadine Civitella, Alfred Pettit, Joseph Skrabl, and Rita St. Jacques; Anne Keane of Shelton; David Erhardt of Derby; Kenneth Hawkins of Milford; Nicole Levine of Oxford; Natasha Koonce-Webster of Hamden; and Robert Newton of Seymour.

The Patient Family Advisory Council is just one of many ways individuals in the community can serve in contributing to the hospital’s mission of providing personalized, humanistic, consumer- driven healthcare in a healing environment.

Olde Ripton Garden Club in Shelton to meet at Plumb Memorial Library

SHELTON - The Olde Ripton Garden Club will kick off its 2019 gardening season at its first meeting of the calendar year March 4. 

Area gardeners and enthusiasts are asked to consider joining the Club and assist with its mission of beautifying streets, highways and grounds around public buildings in Shelton. The Club provides education and knowledge of horticulture and preservation of the environment.

Area residents can join no matter what level of gardening they are at – from beginner to master gardener! 

Projects include working on community gardens around town, holiday decorating at public buildings in Shelton, a garden therapy program with seniors, and youth gardening in Shelton schools. Getting involved with activities of the Club is a good way to get to know neighbors and be active in projects related to gardening, house plants, horticulture classes, trips, landscape design, and programs focusing on pollinators, birds, and conservation.

Meetings include speakers, a light lunch, great conversation and friendly activities. 

Interested parties are invited to attend a meeting to see if they want to join.

The first meeting will be held at 10 a.m. March 4 at Plumb Memorial Library Community Room, 65 Wooster St. 

A nominal visitor fee of $5 is requested to help defray costs of program, lunch, and refreshments. Annual dues are $35 for those who wish to join.

The Olde Ripton Garden Club is a non-profit organization.

NAUGATUCK - The Naugatuck Community Choir, under the direction of Mark Silva, is eagerly seeking new members in all vocal sections.  
Tenors and basses are strongly encouraged to join. 
Come be a part of this talented group, which has been bringing beautiful music to the Naugatuck area for more than 20 years.   

Rehearsals are on Mondays, from 7-9:30 p.m. at Naugatuck High School, 543 Rubber Ave. 

First rehearsal is Monday, Jan. 28.

NAUGATUCK - The Naugatuck Community Choir, under the direction of Mark Silva, is eagerly seeking new members in all vocal sections for its winter session as it celebrates its 20th season.

Tenors and basses are strongly encouraged to join. The choir is excited to be celebrating its beginnings by returning to The Congregational Church of Naugatuck across from the green.

Come be a part of this talented group, which has been bringing beautiful music to Naugatuck, surrounding towns, and the Valley. 

There are NO Auditions. An extra special invitation is extended to former members to return and lend their voices for this special time in the choir’s history.
