Shelton Police arrest woman after armed threats; seize drugs, weapons

SHELTON - Officers responded to a reported breach of peace at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at a multifamily residence on Howe Avenue involving threats with a firearm, police said Tuesday in a release.
Upon arrival, Officer Napoleone and Sgt. Nembhard learned that a female resident had allegedly pointed a firearm at neighboring occupants and made verbal threats. Moments later officers were able to make entry into the suspect’s apartment.
During a protective sweep, officers located a Masterpiece Arms firearm, a large-capacity magazine, and a small quantity of a white rock-like substance in plain view. The substance later field-tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl.
The suspect, Eunice Berrios, 60, was located inside the apartment and showed signs of intoxication. While being taken into custody, she made additional threatening statements toward the neighboring residents.
A firearm records check revealed no registration associated with the weapon.
Berrios was arrested and charged with the following:
•Breach of Peace 2nd Degree
•Threatening 1st Degree
•Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree
•Illegal Possession of an Assault Weapon
•Illegal Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine
•Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit
•Use of a Machine Gun (Aggressive Purpose) •Carrying a Dangerous Weapon
•Possession of a Controlled Substance
•Illegal Carrying of a Firearm While Under the Influence
Berrios was held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Derby Superior Court.

Ansonia Police charge man with possession of firearms, ammunition

ANSONIA - Police received multiple reports of shots fired at about 10:30 p.m. Friday  from in or around 84 Franklin St. 
A witness reported seeing a gun pointed out a window at the location and fired towards the rear of the house into the woods. Officers made contact with the owner/resident, another occupant of the home, and shell casings were located outside the home. 
Police obtained a search warrant for the home and located during the search were two handguns, a shotgun, three BB guns, and ammunition for the handguns and shotgun.

Ryan Ortiz, 39, owner of the home, is a convicted felon for Illegal sale of firearm in New York, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a written release. 
Ortiz was arrested for five counts criminal possession of firearms and ammunition and two counts of criminal possession of a pistol. 
He was held on a $250,000 bond and was to be arraigned today in Derby Superior Court.

Lynch said the investigation is ongoing to determine who fired the gun and additional charges are anticipated.
All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Ansonia Police respond to complaint of male with 'altered mental status'


 

ANSONIA - Ansonia Police investigated a complaint at about 3 a.m. today of a person with an altered mental status on Prospect Street. 

The male was reported to be acting irrationally, and armed with a handgun. 

The male refused to exit the home when contacted by police. 

With the assistance of a relative, the male was convinced to exit the house where he was taken into protective custody and transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. 

A search warrant at the home located two firearms, police said. 

No arrest has been made at this time and the investigation is still ongoing.
