Ansonia Police arrest Bridgeport man in 2023 shots fired incident

ANSONIA - Xavier Glover, 23, of Bridgeport was taken into custody Sunday on an arrest warrant for his involvement in a June 2023 shots fired investigation, police said today. 

On June 14, 2023 officer and detectives from the Ansonia Police Department investigated a report of shots fired on Orchard Street and South Street. Through the course of the investigation Xavier Glover was identified as a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest. 


Glover was charged with unlawful discharge and carrying a pistol without a permit. He was held on a $100,000 bond and arraigned June 25 at Derby Superior Court.

 

All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Ansonia Police charge man with possession of firearms, ammunition

ANSONIA - Police received multiple reports of shots fired at about 10:30 p.m. Friday  from in or around 84 Franklin St. 
A witness reported seeing a gun pointed out a window at the location and fired towards the rear of the house into the woods. Officers made contact with the owner/resident, another occupant of the home, and shell casings were located outside the home. 
Police obtained a search warrant for the home and located during the search were two handguns, a shotgun, three BB guns, and ammunition for the handguns and shotgun.

Ryan Ortiz, 39, owner of the home, is a convicted felon for Illegal sale of firearm in New York, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a written release. 
Ortiz was arrested for five counts criminal possession of firearms and ammunition and two counts of criminal possession of a pistol. 
He was held on a $250,000 bond and was to be arraigned today in Derby Superior Court.

Lynch said the investigation is ongoing to determine who fired the gun and additional charges are anticipated.
All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Waterbury man arrested in connection with Ansonia shots fired case

ANSONIA - On Nov. 12 Edward Rumley, 32, of Waterbury was taken into custody on an arrest warrant for his involvement in the Aug. 31, 2024 shots fired investigation in Ansonia. 


Rumley was charged with criminal attempt at assault first degree, reckless endangerment first degree, unlawful discharge, criminal possession of firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit, Lt. Patrick Lynch said today in a release.

Rumley was held on a $250,000 bond, arraigned in court Nov. 13, and turned over to the custody of the Department of Corrections. 


Rumley’s next court appearance is Nov. 21, 2024. At least one more arrest will be made in this case, the suspect is currently in custody with the Department of Corrections on unrelated charges and will be arrested on a later date, Lynch said.

All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law; an arrest is not proof of or an admission of guilt.

3 arrested in Bridgeport in connection to shots fired in Ansonia



ANSONIA - Police responded to a shots fired complaint at 6:07 p.m. Saturday on Fourth Street near North Main Street. 

Officers located a shell casing and an unspent round in the area, but there were no victims and no reports of damage to any property, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a written release. 

During the investigation a suspect gray Dodge Caliber was identified and a statewide message was sent to all law enforcement agencies regarding the vehicle. 


A short time later the Bridgeport Police Department located the car with three occupants inside. 

A handgun was found inside the car and all the occupants were arrested by Bridgeport PD. 

The individuals arrested were identified as Claude Perry, 30, of Ansonia, Edward Rumley, 32, of Waterbury, and Chantel Carter, 38, of New Haven. 

The investigation into the shots fired is ongoing and arrests are anticipated in the near future.

Lynch said Chief Williams would like to thank the Bridgeport Police Department, in particular Officer Jancy Rodriguez and Sgt. Julio Diez, for their assistance in identifying the suspects and recovering evidence for the investigation.

Ansonia Police seek information about shots fired Tuesday night


ANSONIA - Police received multiple calls at about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday reporting shots fired on Fourth Street in the area of Liberty and Star Streets. 
During the investigation multiple shell casings were recovered on Fourth Street. Video from the area showed several people walking on Fourth Street when two of them begin firing guns for no apparent reason, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a release. 
The group then ran from the area in several different directions. 
Area hospitals were checked but there were no reported gunshot victims at any of the hospitals.

Male shot after dispute in Ansonia shopping center parking lot


ANSONIA - Ansonia Police received multiple 911 calls at about 6:30 p.m. today (Thursday) reporting shots fired in the parking lot of Rite Aid and Marshall's at 407 Main St. 


The first officers on scene found a male suffering from a gunshot to the lower body, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a written release. 

Medical personnel responded to the scene and the male was transported to a local hospital for treatment; the wound is not life threatening. 

The preliminary investigation showed there was a dispute between two males in the parking lot during which a handgun was displayed and one of the males was shot, Lynch said. 

The other male remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. 

The handgun was recovered, all the involved parties have been identified, and police said there is no danger to the public. 

The investigation is ongoing and there are no arrests at this time.

Ansonia Police arrest Fairfield man in domestic dispute, shots fired incident

ANSONIA -  Ansonia Police responded on May 30 to Prospect Street on a report of a disturbance where a person had a gun and a shot was fired. 


First responding officers met with a female and a witness who reported the father of the female’s child had come to the residence, kicked in a door then shot the female’s car twice when leaving the area. 

The car, unoccupied at the time, had two bullet holes and shell casings were recovered at the scene. 

Police said the male suspect was identified as Taykwan Williamson.  

 

On June 5 with the assistance of the Fairfield Police Department, Taykwan Williamson was arrested by warrant for his involvement in a May 30, 2023 domestic dispute and shots fired in Ansonia.  

Williamson, 27, of Fairfield was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge, first degree reckless endangerment, first degree criminal mischief, and second degree breach of peace. 


Williamson was arraigned Tuesday at Derby Superior Court and released on $150,000 bond. His next court date is July 18, 2023 at Derby Superior Court.

Ansonia police seek information on overnight shooting of New Haven man


ANSONIA - At about 12:30 a.m. today police received multiple complaints of shots fired in the area of West Main Street and Bridge Street, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a release. 

The first officers on scene located several handgun shell casings and blood. A short time later Griffin Hospital reported a male gunshot victim in the emergency room, Lynch said. 

The victim, a 35 year-old male from New Haven, was shot several times in the torso and lower body. 

He was stabilized and transferred to a local hospital for further treatment, where he is in serious but stable condition. 

Lynch said two shooting scenes were located; one on Bridge Street and the other on West Main Street, and evidence was recovered from both scenes.

Ansonia Police name person of interest in Wednesday shooting


ANSONIA - An Ansonia police officer on patrol in the Fourth Street area Wednesday reported shots fired 
at about 1:50 p.m
The officer was part of an increased patrol in response to shots fired incidents the previous week, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a written release late Wednesday. 

The officer was on Liberty Street near Fourth Street about 150 feet from where the shooting took place. A male all in black clothing was seen running from the area of the shots fired and attempted to elude officers in the area before he was detained on Star Street. 
The male was identified as Jermaine Smalls, 20, of Ansonia. 
During the course of the investigation, the area where Smalls ran was checked with the assistance of the Seymour Police Department K-9 team. A handgun was located along with clothing Smalls had been wearing.

Shortly after the shots fired, Griffin Hospital reported they had a male shooting victim at their emergency room. The male, a 32 year-old Bridgeport resident, was shot multiple times in the upper body; he was transferred to another area hospital for treatment. The male is currently in critical condition. 

Smalls is a person of interest in the shooting investigation.

 

Smalls was arrested and during a search was found to be in possession of a small amount of crack cocaine, Lynch said. Smalls was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, tampering with evidence, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a school and interfering with an officer. Smalls was held on a $500,000 bond and will be arraigned today at Derby Superior Court.

Smalls was also a subject of shooting investigation by the New York City Police Department. 

Members of the NYPD were working with Ansonia Police detectives and obtained a warrant for Smalls charging him with attempted murder second degree, assault first degree and attempted assault first degree. 

Based on NYPD’s warrant, Smalls was additionally charged with being a fugitive from justice; he was held on an additional $750,000.00 bond and will be arraigned today at Derby Superior Court.

Members of the Derby and Seymour Police Departments along with the State’s Attorney Office in Milford assisted with the investigation.
