Ansonia Police seek information about Saturday robbery on E. Main Street

ANSONIA - Police investigated a robbery complaint at about 11:40 p.m. Saturday that occurred on the street in front of 370 East Main St., The Spot restaurant and lounge.

The initial information from our complainant was that he was involved in a motor vehicle accident and the driver of the other car began yelling at him before she took his wallet and phone, Lt. Patrick Lynch said today in a written release.
During the subsequent investigation the department was notified there was a video on social media of the incident. The complainant was not injured during the robbery, we are currently following up leads to identify all the people involved in the incident.
The following is a statement from Chief Williams. “The Ansonia Police Department is actively conducting an investigation into the street robbery that occurred in front of THE SPOT on East Main Street in Ansonia on the evening of March 1st. We have received numerous tips on this incident and are following up on them. Thank you to those that have sent in tips to our agency.
"We are also aware of the social media video of this incident that is circulating. We would encourage people to stop sharing this video which re-victimizes the victim in this case and sensationalizes the ridiculous actions of those involved. Instead of videotaping this robbery of a defenseless victim, responsible citizens should call 911.
"In this case, with all of the bar patrons standing outside, NOBODY called the police or helped the victim. We are better than this.”

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the police department at 203-735-1885 or anonymous tips can be left at Tip411 at the link below.

Ansonia police seek information after New Haven man, 39, shot

ANSONIA - Police Friday afternoon reported that on Thursday, June 30 at approximately 1705 hours two Ansonia police officers on the Fourth Street side of Liberty Park reported hearing gunshots coming from the Third Street side of the park.
The officers ran towards the gunfire and found an individual on Third Street suffering from several gunshot wounds, police said.
The 39-year old male, identified as Daycus Bailey of New Haven, was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The suspect in the shooting fled the area in a vehicle prior to officers arriving on Third Street. Additional officers/detectives from Ansonia and Seymour Police Departments responded to assist in the investigation.
“We are investigating this serious crime and will continue our police presence in the North End area to provide a safe environment to the residents of our City. Unfortunately, there are members of this community or those that come into this community from other cities, who have no regard for the sanctity of human life and the effects that their behavior has on this community. This recent shooting is an example of this.
"Additionally, the lack of cooperating witnesses and in some cases, uncooperative victims, makes the investigation and successful completion of these incidents more difficult. Having information on a major incident and not providing that information does a disservice to the victim and the community as a whole. We are asking for the public’s help and have established anonymous tip lines for witnesses to provide information and talk with detectives.” – Chief Wayne Williams

Bad news in Ansonia saddens longtime resident

ANSONIA - As a longtime resident who loves the city where we raised our two children it saddened me yesterday to post two reports of armed robberies here.

They occurred less than 18 hours apart. I won't re-post details but the good news is that no shots were fired in either situation.

Although I normally don't post hard news I feel it's important to get the word out about violent crime in the community. So when I receive an emailed media release from Ansonia Police - or any department - I'll post it.

With the COVID-19 pandemic and what it has inflicted upon all segments of society it seems 2020 will never give up. Nothing feels "normal."

That's why whenever possible I make it a point to take and post photos of squirrels, birds, sunsets, fall foliage, and such to lighten the mood.

I hope it helps. I know for certain it helps me.
