Ansonia Police seek information on 2 accidents Sunday

ANSONIA - An Ansonia police officer was advised by a motorist at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday that their car had been struck by a gray Jeep at the intersection of Bridge and West Main streets, left the scene and was last seen on Pershing Drive, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a release today. 

The officer attempted to locate the Jeep and found that the Jeep was involved in a second accident on Pershing Drive at Division Street. 

In the second accident the Jeep struck two more vehicles before hitting a pole and catching on fire. The four occupants of the Jeep were all injured with one of them suffering serious head and neck injuries. That passenger is currently in critical condition. 

The names of the parties involved will not be released at this time.

 

Chief Williams would like to thank the Derby Police Department, Ansonia Rescue Medical Services, Ansonia Fire Department, and the Fairfield Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team for their assistance at the scene and during this investigation.

 

The investigation is ongoing and information will be released as it becomes available and necessary to release.

Ansonia officers, fire chief rescue mother, daughter from house fire Tuesday

ANSONIA - A mother and daughter were rescued Tuesday evening from a house fire on Spring Street, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a written release.

Ansonia Police Sgt. Alex Barreira and Sgt. Ed Magera forced entry into the home and along with Chief Anthony DeLucia of the Ansonia Fire Department entered the home. Lynch said both women were safely evacuated. 

Both officers were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation along with one of the residents. 

A 90-year-old female was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released, Lynch said. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation but is not believed to be suspicious.

'Turnback Tuesday' features major fire in downtown Derby

Turnback Tuesday reminds us of the bravery of our fire departments.

On the very cold night of January 12, 1879, shortly after 1 a.m., the block on Main Street between Elizabeth and Minerva erupted into flames.

The fire was so fierce that Ansonia, Shelton, Seymour, and New Haven fire departments were all there to help. With the temperature at -10 degrees, the water froze to the buildings, fire equipment, walkways, and streets. Much loss was experienced by all who lived and had businesses. Fortunately there were no fatalities.

If you look closely near the top, you can see the name of Dr. B. F. Leach Dentist on the second floor archway.

I was fortunate enough to go on 'field trips' to Paris two years in a row when daughter Allegra was in high school.

Valley lawmaker joins legislature's Fire and EMS caucus

HARTFORD – State Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria, R-Seymour, officially became a member of the legislature’s bi-partisan Fire and EMS caucus on Tuesday during the first meeting of the newly formed caucus.

Klarides-Ditria said, “I look forward to working with my colleagues to find bi-partisan solutions that will benefit our public safety officers. It is also important to hear from our local firefighters and EMS officers regularly, and I encourage our public safety officers to reach out to me with their concerns or ideas so I can bring them to the Fire and EMS Caucus.”  

Co-chairs, state Reps. Brian Ohler and Pat Boyd announced in May their plans to form the Fire and EMS Caucus. 

The caucus will focus on specific public safety issues that first responders must navigate on a daily basis.

ANSONIA - Resident Missy Lundeen, a volunteer with the Red Cross, posted the information below on Facebook and I'm sharing it here. 
She runs Going The Extra Mile, an organization that helps local families who lose personal belongings to fire.

Ansonia resident seeks help for 5 families displaced by Friday's fire

This is one of two multi-family houses heavily damaged by fire Friday night at the corner of Fourth and Liberty streets in Ansonia.

ANSONIA - Resident Missy Lundeen, a volunteer with the Red Cross, is working hard to help five families displaced by a fire last Friday night.

Firefighters battle house fire in Ansonia

Firefighters from Ansonia and Derby knocked down a house fire at 3 Marshall Lane late this afternoon.

I don't usually cover fires but I happened to be nearby so I took some photos. 
I heard everyone got out of the house but I have no further information.

2 rescued from Ansonia house fire

This was the scene of a house fire at 2 Greenfield Drive, Ansonia, this morning. Ansonia Mayor David S. Cassetti said an elderly woman and her son were rescued from the residence. Their dog also made it out safely.
