Derby Public Library showcases heritage quilt square


Though the Valley Heritage Quilt has moved on to a new home at the Valley Community Center, Derby Public Library is still showcasing each quilt square to highlight the beautiful & diverse heritage of the Valley.

Today's square is...
UNITED KINGDOM : ENGLAND, SCOTLAND & WALES
In this block, the red velveteen represents England with the purple stitching adorned with pearls as symbols of the monarchy. Scotland is represented by the tartan plaids and thistle-patterned fabrics. The flower stitching represents the English love of gardens.

The Library is at 313 Elizabeth St., Derby.

Derby Public Library showcases square of Valley Heritage Quilt


Though the Valley Heritage Quilt has moved on to a new home, Derby Public Library is still showcasing each quilt square to highlight the beautiful and diverse heritage of the Valley.

Today's square is...
THE FAR EAST
This block is made from kimono fabrics and embellished with a Japanese type of embroidery called Sashiko.
The stitching is done in a variation of the Seven Treasures pattern.

Derby Public Library highlights heritage quilt square


DERBY - Though the Valley Heritage Quilt has moved on to a new home, Derby Public Library is still showcasing each quilt square to highlight the beautiful and diverse heritage of the Valley.
Today's square is...IRELAND.

All fabrics in this block are shades of green for the Emerald Isle. The shamrock is made of glass beads to represent the Irish crystal industry. Also included are wool and lace to showcase those industries.
