Capt. Cheryl McCollum of the Salvation Army in Ansonia says a prayer before introducing Assumption School students Dominik Sudol and Jamie Reay who both read Scripture. 

They were taking part in the National Day of Prayer celebration last week at Veterans Memorial Park in Ansonia.

The 10th annual event was organized by Ansonia residents Larry and Pat Boemmels. The couple is to be commended for coordinating this event for the past decade.

Music was provided by the Reclaim Christian Church Worship Team.

About 75 people attended the celebration.

Father Jeffrey Gubbiotti, pastor, Holy Rosary and Assumption Churches in Ansonia, prays for the future of education. 

Ulysses Youngblood, pastor, Abundant Life Fellowship Ministries in Ansonia, prays for business people.

Other clergy who took part in the event were Pastor Michael Jenkins of First United Methodist Church, Pastor David Barker, River Valley Baptist Church, and Pastor Breandan McTighe of Reclaim Christian Church, all in Ansonia.

ANSONIA - The city's National Day of Prayer observance will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at Veterans Memorial Park adjacent to City Hall, 253 Main St.

In the event of rain the celebration will be held at the Ansonia Armory, 5 State St.

Good Evening Residents of the Great City of Ansonia!

Once again, this is Mayor David Cassetti calling to wish you and your family the best during this difficult time. And to remind you: there IS a light at the end of the tunnel!

The City is working closely with local authorities and state agencies to determine when it safe to start reopening our city. And next week I will be naming members of REOPENING COMMITTEE to make sure our changes are done with public safety first in mind! The Committee will consist of key city staff.

But until then- PLEASE continue to exercise patience. Your adherence to social distancing policies is SAVING LIVES and now is not the time to let your guard down. Please remember to wear protective masks in public and exercise caution when you leave the house.

Now some news. I am pleased to announce that applications for Ansonia’s TAX DEFERRAL PROGRAM are now available online at cityofansonia.com and on our Facebook page. This program will allow eligible taxpayers to defer payment of property taxes for up to 90 days.

And speaking of tax relief, I have released my recommendation for the next year’s City Budget. My recommended budget calls for a ZERO TAX INCREASE while supporting vital city services. Now is not the time to pass on extra costs to struggling households and businesses. The City’s Board of Taxation and Board of Aldermen will now proceed to review and finalize the budget.

Now, I know the last month hasn’t been the best time for a Birthdays. Especially for kids! Well, the City of Ansonia- in partnership with WALMART- wants to help. If a child 10 YEARS OR YOUNGER has a Birthday in March, April or May, PLEASE email his or her name and birthday to me dcassetti@ansoniact.org. That’s dcassetti@ansoniact.org.

Finally, I invite the community to join us at the Ansonia High School Parking Lot, 26 Pulaski Hwy, to observe the NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER! It’s happening this Thursday, May 7th, from 5:30-7:00 pm, with music prelude beginning at 5:00 pm. Just Drive-In - stay in the comfort of your vehicle, & Tune-In to the 87.9 FM radio station to hear and participate in this live presentation!

Ansonia to mark National Day of Prayer

ANSONIA - The Mayor’s Office welcomes all to celebrate the 66th National Day of Prayer with a public observance scheduled for May 4 in Veterans’ Memorial Park adjacent to City Hall on Main Street.

The observance will take place from 6-7:30 p.m., rain or shine. 

In the event of rain, it will be moved to the Aldermanic Chambers in City Hall.

This observance is a result of the joint resolution in the United States Congress in 1952, signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

“Prayer gatherings will be taking place all day and evening throughout our nation,” said Mayor David S. Cassetti. “I encourage all residents to stop by Veterans’ Park and enjoy a moment of prayer.”

The Governor’s Proclamation will be read by Cassetti. 

“We are very thankful to have Ansonia residents Pat and Larry Boemmels as National Day of Prayer local organizers,” said Cassetti. 

This marks the fourth annual National Day of Prayer at Veterans’ Park.

ANSONIA - We invite all who have a love for the Lord Jesus Christ and wish to pray for our nation, to join us for the Judeo-Christian expression of the 65^th annual National Day of Prayer to be held May 5.  

Valley residents and their families are invited to answer the call of prayer from 6-7:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, located adjacent to Ansonia City Hall, 253 Main St.

The National Day of Prayer is an expression of the Judeo-Christian faith that was first designated in 1952.  

The theme for 2016 is Wake Up America, emphasizing the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to return to the God of Fathers in reverence for His Holy Name. 

To further highlight this theme, event organizers have chosen Isaiah 58:1a as our Scripture for this year:  “Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet.” The prayer for the nation was written by Dr. Tony Evans, 2016 Honorary Chairman, and will be read at each prayer event occurring across the country.

The main purpose of this event is to be in one accord as we repent, intercede, ask forgiveness, and seek God’s wisdom. 

We will be praying for the Seven Centers of Influence:  Government, Military, Media, Business, Education, Church, Family, and we have added Israel. The Governor’s Proclamation for the National Day of Prayer will be read by the Honorable David Cassetti, Mayor of Ansonia. 

Prayer gatherings will take place all day and evening throughout our nation. Last year there were more than 43,000. 

This is a privilege and responsibility for every believer, especially in these critical times, no matter who we are or what position we hold. It is time to seek the Lord.

This is the fifth year that we will be holding the National Day of Prayer observance in Ansonia. 

We are so grateful that each year we have been honored to have Clergy and congregants from local churches, city officials, police, veterans, emergency responders, and so many others, make time to pray with us. 

The National Day of Prayer will take place rain or shine (believing for “shine”).
