Neurologist to discuss her new book in virtual conversation Thursday


You’re invited to a fascinating virtual conversation with neurologist and author Pria Anand to chat about her new book, The Mind Electric: A Neurologist on the Strangeness and Wonder of Our Brains on at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 31.

About the Author: Pria Anand is a neurologist at the Boston Medical Center and an Assistant Professor at the Boston University School of Medicine. She is a graduate of Yale University and Stanford Medical School, and she trained in neurology, neuro-infectious diseases, and neuro-immunology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Patronize Dew Drop Inn Tuesday, support Friends of the Derby Neck Library

DERBY - Next Tuesday, Feb. 22, The Dew Drop Inn is presenting a fundraiser for the Friends of the Derby Neck Library!
On that day, 15% of all sales will go directly to the Derby Neck Library in support of future public programming, new additions to the book and DVD collections and more.

Friends of Derby Neck Library to present The Kerry Boys

The Kerry Boys are Mark James, originally from the county Kerry Ireland now a Cheshire resident, and Pierce Campbell, (Connecticut’s official State Troubadour 2007/08) of Prospect. 

These two dynamic and popular Connecticut Irish Balladeers combined their talents to form an exciting Irish music duo over 25 years ago, and have been dazzling audiences from Maine to Pennsylvania ever since.

Derby Neck Library to host trip to La Salette Festival of Lights

DERBY - The Friends of Derby Neck Library will conduct a trip Dec. 2 to the La Salette Festival of Lights in Attleboro, Mass.

This is the most visited Christmas event in New England and features beautiful grounds and over 100,000 lights. 
The cost is $84 per person, which covers free raffles on the bus. The bus departs from the Derby High School parking lot at 10:15 a.m. Also included is lunch at Morin’s in Attleboro.

Stroll the grounds and shops and experience the magic at twilight as the lights bring a joyous life to the evening. 
Estimated time of return is 9 p.m. Seats are being filled daily and are limited to 52; register as soon as possible. Deadline to register is Nov. 6.

Friends of Derby Neck Library to hold annual book sale

DERBY - The Friends of the Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave., will hold their annual book sale from Aug. 19-27 at the library during regular hours - Monday-Thursday 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 1-5 p.m.

Come select from hundreds of books, CDs, and DVDs that are suitable for all ages.  

Seasonal raffles for school supplies and Labor Day themes will also be available.  
Some baked goods will be for sale as well.  
Come by and support the library.

Derby Neck Library Friends planning bus trip to Albany Tulip Festival


Friends of the Derby Neck Library will sponsor a bus trip to the 69th annual Albany Tulip Festival May 13.

Cost is $93, which covers the bus and a lunch at Shadows on the Hudson restaurant.

Friends of Derby Neck Library plan bus trip to Vermont


DERBY - The Friends of Derby Neck Library will sponsor a bus trip to Bennington, Vt. Sept. 17. There are six seats left.

The trip leaves from the Derby High School parking lot at 7:30 a.m. and returns at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The $87 cost includes transportation, lunch, and the driver's gratuity.
The group will tour the Bennington Potters and have shopping time there, choose from three entrees for lunch at the Publyk House and visit the The Country Barn and apple orchard where there will be a motor coach tour. Cider and donuts will be served there.

The Country Barn has a bakery, ice cream parlor, made in Vermont products and of course, apples.
