Derby Neck Library to host movies, book club, writer's workshop

DERBY - The Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave., has announced a variety of activities scheduled in May.

Dinner and a Movie
The library hosts “Dinner and a Movie” for ages 18 and older at 5:30 p.m. May 7. This month’s feature film is “It Happened One Night” shown on blu-ray. 
This is a 1937 Frank Capra classic featuring Clark Gable and Colette Colbert. 
Refreshments will be served, including a free dinner at intermission. Reservations required.

Music and movement
The Library presents Miss Kathi dancing and singing under our indoor stars at 6:30 p.m. May 13. 
“Bedtime Music and Movement” happens once each month. Your child is invited to come in comfortable pajamas and bring a favorite stuffed animal or doll.

Cooking demo
The Library hosts Dana Joy and her “Springtime Special Quiche.” at 2 p.m. May 17. Dana will show you her cooking techniques and offer advice on making the perfect quiche. She will also have her exclusive recipes for sale in book form. Come to the library to enjoy a free program and tasting session.

Women's forum
At 12:30 p.m. May 18 the Library hosts “Women’s Forum” a discussion group devoted to short stories, poetry, history, and related arts. 
Our two stories for this month are “A Clean, Well-Lighted Place” by Ernest Hemingway and “The Lumber-Room” by H.H. Munro. Free copies of these stories are available at the library. You may wish to bring a light lunch. We serve free coffee and tea.

Book club
At 6:30 p.m. May 18 “The Evening Book Club” meets at the Library. This month’s title is “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” by Truman Capote. Copies are available at the library. Our club is devoted to reading novels by the best authors , as well as some memoirs and inspirational writings. 


Writer's Round
“Writers’ Round” meets at the Library at 6:30 p.m. May 21. This a workshop for writers of all genres—scripts, prose, poetry, fiction, etc. Come join us in creative exercises and share your original works.

Movie night
The Library hosts “Teen Movie Night”  at 5:30 p.m. May 26. This month’s feature film, shown in blu-ray on a large screen, is “Woman in Black 2.” Bring a friend or two and enjoy; free refreshments. 
This event is for ages 17 and younger - teens and tweens.
