HGTV star to attend My Sister's Place Flea Market Flip at Ansonia Armory

ANSONIA - Mark DeVito, master craftsman from HGTV’s Flea Market Flip, will be at the Armory Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the My Sister’s Place Flea Market Flip fundraiser. 
The Armory is at 25 N. Cliff St.

The event is free and open to the public and will feature more than 45 “flipped” items, upcycling and crafting demonstrations and refreshments. 
Proceeds from the sale of each flip item will benefit The Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services.

My Sister's Place Flea Market Flip is a fun, creative twist on recycling or up-cycling similar to the HGTV show with the same name, Flea Market Flip. 
Individual participants or teams of two must purchase their flip item(s) at MSP for $50 or less and no more than $50 may be spent on repurposing/up-cycling the item(s). 

This year we have over 45 awesome and creative pieces for sale. 
Some of the items purchased for the flip include dressers, chairs, tables, yarn, glassware, and a special piece by Ansonia Mayor David S. Cassetti.

St. Mary-St. Michael School in Derby to hold Festival of Trees

DERBY - Join St. Mary-St. Michael School students and staff from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 17 for a day of holiday cheer! 
It will feature vendors, crafters, and baskets for raffle, as well as baked goods and a concession stand with delicious breakfast and lunch options. 
There will be music, and pictures with Santa or the children.

Seymour Public Library to host evening magic show for families

SEYMOUR - Join us for a Halloween Magic show with Pete and Chris at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 23! 
It will be an exciting and funny evening family program. 
The event is hosted by Seymour Public Library and Pete and Chris Amusements.

Recuperation journey: A tale of two 5Ks, in Derby and Seymour

I guess this just wasn't the season for me when it comes to taking part in 5K walks.

Two weeks ago I had to stop after a little less than a mile at the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital's walk/run because of ankle pain.

Fast forward to today at the 7th annual Pounding the Pavement for Pink in downtown Seymour. 
Like everyone else I had donned plenty of pink bling and was all set to get some exercise with members of our Circle of Friends support group from Griffin Hospital. 
We had just started what we expected to be a nice walk (we don't mind coming in last or almost last) when one of our friends tripped on a strip across the road that I guess is used for timing races. 
She was just ahead of me to my right, and I saw her trip and then lose her balance and fall forward onto the pavement, hitting her forehead and nose. 
Long story short she was taken to Griffin Hospital, and a friend and I stayed with her until a family member arrived. She never lost consciousness, and it didn't seem like she had broken anything. She no doubt will be quite sore tomorrow.
When the EMTs got her off the ground and onto a stretcher everyone around us clapped and cheered, which was a nice show of support. 

We felt so sorry for her! She didn't need that to happen.

I can only hope next year's event will be much calmer and all will go "according to plan."

Recuperation journey: Believe

I'm using my Seymour Pink Believe mug this morning to motivate myself to believe I'll do OK at the Pounding the Pavement for Pink 5K later this morning in Seymour.

Truth be told I had to stop after the first loop at the Griffin Hospital 5K two weeks ago because of some stupid pain; the friend I was walking with was happy to stop too. We walked almost a mile, better than nothing! 

Now where did I put the creme d'emu bleu? Time to slather it on.

My daughter and I celebrated needle-felting Friday by making pig witches under the tutelage of needle-felter extraordinaire Kayleigh Mihalko. 
The workshop was held at Lizzie's Corner Consignment, 36 Bank St., Seymour. We are making a turkey at the next workshop. Come join us!
