Logan to address BHcare's annual Employment Salute at La Sala in Derby

DERBY - State Sen. George Logan, R-Ansonia, will be keynote speaker June 12 at the 25th Annual Employment Salute sponsored by BHcare’s Business Advisory Council and the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce. 

The luncheon is free to area businesses and will be held from noon -1:30 p.m. at La Sala Banquet Hall, 73 High St.

Logan will address the importance of hiring a diversified workforce.

Labor official to speak at BHcare employment salute in Ansonia

ANSONIA - Assistant Director and Economist of the Connecticut Department of Labor Patrick Flaherty will be keynote speaker at the 23rd Annual Employment Salute sponsored by BHcare’s Business Advisory Council and the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce. 

The luncheon will be held at noon May 18 at Holy Rosary Church Hall in Ansonia. The complimentary lunch will be catered by David Grant and is open to area businesses.

Flaherty will address the changing economics and opportunities for business.

The Employment Salute will honor TEAM, Inc. as Employer of the Year. 

An Employee of the Year Award will also be presented. BHcare recognizes that employment is integral to an individual’s recovery and therefore promotes competitive employment in the community through individualized support services.

BHcare slates 22nd annual employment salute in Ansonia

ANSONIA - BHcare will host its 22nd annual employment salute at noon May 4 at Molto Bene Italian American Kitchen, 557 Wakelee Ave.

The luncheon event for area employers is sponsored by the BHcare Business Advisory Council and The Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce. 

Keynote speaker Attorney Leonard A. McDermott will present "Protecting Employer Rights."


Employer of the Year Award will be presented to Lowe's of Orange and J&B Auto Body of Shelton.

Ansonia named Employer of Year at annual BHcare event

ANSONIA - Mayor David S. Cassetti recently accepted BHcare’s Employer of the Year award on behalf of the City of Ansonia.  

The award was presented to Cassetti at BHcare's 21st Annual Employment Salute where nearly 70 people gathered at Molto Bene Italian American Kitchen restaurant to honor the employer and employee of the year.

“It is an absolute honor to accept this award on behalf of the City,” Cassetti said. “I credit the excellent work of our new Public Works Director, Douglas Novak, in designing an innovative Summer Work Program that achieved beautification of Ansonia’s parks and greenways while also affording residents a temporary part-time employment opportunity.”

Cassetti’s Summer Work Program began mid-May 2014 with the hiring of seven new part-time employees intended to beef-up Ansonia Public Works’ ground crews and ensure a cleaner City.

Their duties included cleaning public parks, picking up litter, weed whacking, mowing, trimming shrubbery, planting grass, highway maintenance, and a broad range of other beatification efforts. 

 “The City was in need of a spring and summer cleaning,” Cassetti said. “Our seasonal workers were a tremendous help, and it is wonderful to see BHcare recognizing the program with this award.”

Novak is advocating for the program, which utilized several BHcare clients, to be continued during the summer of 2015.  

“The Summer Work Program gives full-time Public Works employees the opportunity to focus their attention on major maintenance initiatives within the City that have been neglected in the past due to budgetary constraints,” he said.

The luncheon is complimentary for employers and businesses based in Oxford, Seymour, Ansonia, Derby, and Shelton.

The Employment Salute will feature keynote speaker Bill Purcell, President of the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce. He will discuss the business value of employees with disabilities.

BHcare recognizes that employment is integral to an individual’s recovery and therefore promotes competitive employment in the community through individualized support services.

Employment Salute honorees include the City of Ansonia as Employer of the Year, and Lynn Ownings as Employee of the Year.
