Recuperation journey: Yet another post about naps

My cousin, Susan, told me recently she enjoyed reading my NAP (natural aging process) recuperation journey post, and when she saw this sleep shirt while shopping at the GAP she had to get it for me.
She thought it was perfect, and it is!

😁
Thanks for thinking of me, Sue.

Recuperation journey: More about naps and, ahem, aging

The napping elf got me today.

I wrote about naps in this post last week.
The word nap is short for Natural Aging Process, in my humble opinion.

Naps are often necessary when a kidney transplant recipient like myself doesn't sleep well at night - thanks to the twice-daily cocktail of meds I must take.
The medication must be the cause of my interrupted sleep. The melatonin suggestion didn't seem to help at all.

But taking all the meds is a small price to pay to stay healthy and take care of my new kidney.

For the past two days I was proud of myself because I "powered" through the afternoon without taking a rejuvenating nap.
But today I really needed one. So I caved in!
The afternoon snooze gave me enough energy to face the rest of what I had to do today, such as make dinner and do a load of laundry.

Sleepless in the Valley: That could be a good title for this post.
Guess I can use that one next time, if this annoying problem persists.

Griffin Hospital in Derby slates driver-safety program

Griffin Hospital to offer an AARP Driver Safety Program Sept. 16./ Submitted photo

DERBY - Griffin Hospital will host an AARP Driver Safety Program from 8:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Sept. 16 at the hospital, 130 Division St.
The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation's first and largest refresher course for drivers. While the course is geared toward drivers age 50 and older, it is open to everyone.

The training is designed to help you learn current rules of the road, how to operate your vehicle more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment, and make some adjustments to common age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time.

The course also covers such topics as how to maintain proper following distance at all times; the safest way to change lanes and make turns at intersections; the effects of medications on driving; how to minimize the effect of dangerous blind spots; the importance of eliminating distractions, such as eating, smoking, and cell-phone use; proper use of safety belts, air bags, and anti-lock brakes and ways to monitor your own and others' driving skills and capabilities.

Participants will gain a greater appreciation of driving challenges and how they can avoid potential collisions and injuries to themselves and others.
As an added bonus, participants can check with their auto insurance company about discounts for completing the course.

The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Make checks payable to “AARP.”
To register, call Esther, 203-732-1523.

Recuperation journey: Natural Aging Process

When I was wide awake during the night I dreamed up an acronym - NAP. 💤 💤 💤

It suddenly occurred to me what NAP stands for: Natural Aging Process.

Remember when you were little and you'd fight that afternoon nap the grownups would insist that you take?

These days an afternoon nap can be downright glorious. I'll never fight that idea, especially now, post-transplant, when I'm trying my best to take care of my health.

Naps soften the blow of the natural aging process we all experience, I'd say.

Who's with me?
