Klarides-Ditria to take GOP lead on Regulation Review Committee

State Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria

HARTFORD - State Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria of Seymour will take the House Republican lead on the Legislative Regulation Review Committee when the 2019 Legislative Session begins Jan. 9
Klarides-Ditria will also continue serving on the Public Health and Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committees.

"Overly burdensome regulations have frustrated many residents and industries in Connecticut," said Klarides-Ditria.
"I think for our state to move in a new direction we need to make sure any new regulation that is put into place is looked at very closely and all stakeholders have a voice. This is the approach I will take as the Ranking Member of the Regulation Review Committee."

The Legislative Regulation Review Committee is responsible to review regulations proposed by state agencies and approve them before regulations are implemented.
This position was adopted since all regulations have the force of law, and it is important that regulations do not contravene the legislative intent, or conflict with current state or federal laws, or state or federal constitutions.

Klarides-Ditria can be reached at 860-240-8700 or by email Nicole.Klarides-Ditria@housegop.ct.gov.

Ansonia, Derby GOP endorse Jaumann for 104th District

ANSONIA - Republicans Wednesday unanimously endorsed local attorney and Ansonia Alderman Joseph Jaumann as their candidate for the 104th District House Seat.

“I am humbled and honored to have the support of everyone here tonight, and I look forward to spending the summer and fall talking to as many people in our district as I can about the issues facing Connecticut and the Valley area,” Jaumann said to delegates during the party convention at Copper City Bar and Grill.
“Connecticut is at a crossroads - we can’t afford another two years of failed policies that have resulted in lost businesses and jobs. I’m eager to fight for on behalf of all residents - Republicans, Democrats, and Unaffiliated - to reverse the course our state is on."

The district covers Ansonia and Derby, an area that has seen Jaumann serve in various volunteer roles over the years, from his position in local government to his volunteer work as an Ansonia Little League coach.
Jaumann said he is eager to join resurgent House Republicans in the General Assembly where, during the two legislative sessions, they maintained a laser focus on the state’s budgetary troubles while offering alternatives to radical revenue-raising concepts floated by Democrats.

“Joe Jaumann will be a true advocate for the Valley,” said Ansonia Mayor David S. Cassetti. “Joe is a staunch supporter of economic revitalization and someone who realizes that our residents can’t afford new taxes on their cell phones, tires or trips to local restaurants,” Cassetti said.

“We need leaders in Hartford who are willing to look beyond tax hikes as the first and last solution to our state’s problems.”

“Ansonia and Derby need elected representatives willing to fight for deep structural change,” said Derby Mayor Richard Dziekan.
“Joseph Jaumann is committed to Connecticut and for the betterment of our residents.”

Logan vows support for CT home care workers

Bill gives personal care attendants workers’ comp coverage

HARTFORD - State Sen. George S. Logan, R-Ansonia, Vice-Chair of the legislature’s Public Health Committee, today announced he will vote “yes” to approve a state contract which provides workers' compensation insurance for home care workers.
State Sen. George Logan

“These workers provide essential labor for seniors and patients with disabilities,” Logan said.  “The services they provide – from bathing to dressing to helping our most vulnerable residents with everyday errands – help people maintain their independence and stay in their homes. They also provide vital emotional support.
“These laborers need workers' comp. They need to know that they will have safety and security if they get injured on the job. They need to know that we, as legislators, are grateful for what they do.
"They also need to know that we support them and their quality of life.
"I will be proud to support this bipartisan bill and look forward to its passage.”

Logan (www.SenatorGeorgeLogan.com) represents Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Derby, Hamden, Naugatuck, and Woodbridge. He can be reached at George.Logan@cga.ct.gov and 800-842-1421

CT Independent Party endorses Jaumann in 104th

ANSONIA - The Connecticut Independent Party has endorsed Republican Joseph Jaumann for state representative in the 104th District.
Joseph Jaumann

Jaumann, a political newcomer, is a local attorney and chairman of the Ansonia Planning and Zoning Commission, and his name will now appear on both the Republican and Independent ballot lines on Election Day.

“I’m proud to be endorsed by both the Republican and Independent parties and I look forward to serving the residents of our great community,” Jaumann said.
“The Independent Party’s goal of non-partisan problem solving is the same approach that I believe in, and it is same the approach that we need in Hartford to move Connecticut in the right direction.”
The Independent Party is the third-largest political party in Connecticut and has endorsed many candidates across the state this year.

It is estimated that Connecticut will face another budget deficit in the 2017 legislative session. In 2011 and 2015, state Rep. Linda M. Gentile sided with Gov. Dannel Malloy, and voted for the two largest taxes in state history.

To that point, Jaumann added, “We need a new start. A leader who will be independent minded and a voice of the people of Ansonia and Derby, and not simply a rubber stamp for the Governor. It is clear that the policy of raising taxes and borrowing to pay for the state’s spending problem isn’t working. We need to have and open and honest discussion about our budget and not wait till the 11th hour to have the conversation. We need to tackle the budget problems in this state head on starting on the first day of the session, so we can start focusing on the future and our children’s futures.”

Foley visits Ansonia businesses, talks about spending cuts

Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley, left, listens to a reporter's question Tuesday with Ansonia Mayor David S. Cassetti on the steps of Ansonia City Hall.

Foley chats with Guy Tiso, service manager in the Farrel Pomini assembly shop.

Foley posed with Cassetti for one last photo before leaving Ansonia.

Foley criticized Gov. Dannel P. Malloy for not getting control over spending. "Let's stop raising taxes on people," he said.

Cassetti said the next governor "needs to be more business friendly. It's really important to a state like this."

Check out Register correspondent Jean Falbo-Sosnovich's coverage of Foley's visit.
