Register now for virtual Pounding the Pavement for Pink races

Sharing message from Mary Deming, founder and President of the nonprofit Seymour Pink, the community's fight against breast cancer:

9th Annual Pounding the Pavement for Pink Races

Thu October 1 - Sun October 4, 2020
LOCATION: ANY CITY - ANY STATE, CT US 99999 DIRECTIONS
TYPE: VIRTUAL RACE / CHALLENGE
Dear Runners and Walkers,

Going virtual for this year's event may give you pause at first, but virtual affords us an opportunity to walk or run in the fight against breast cancer not just in Seymour, not just In Connecticut, but across our great nation!

The Breast cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment, unfortunately continues. Our loved one's battle against this horrific disease, if anything, has been made more difficult through the constraints the virus has put on receiving proper medical attention and treatment. Additionally, the need for financial assistance has taken its toll on these patients.

This past April, we began delivering over 2300 lawn signs across the state of Connecticut and across America. The message on the sign, although, aimed at us dealing with the virus, is applicable to other “hurdles” life throws at us!

WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS TOGETHER!

For those of you, both individuals and past team captains, who may be “on the fence” about this year's
virtual format, we need you to “Get through this together”

Please consider saying “YES” to virtual and register today!

Early Bird Registration ends this Friday, July 31st, at midnight.

As ALWAYS, we appreciate your support, especially in these very difficult times for so many of you!

Pounding the Pavement for Pink in Seymour raises $104,352

Sharing a message from Seymour Pink founder Mary Deming:

6th Annual Pounding the Pavement for Pink 5K was over the top!!
"For the last six years I have failed to find the right words to capture the sights, sounds and the emotions of the 5K. I think in the end it's because words can't define our 5K event. You can only FEEL yesterday! Our 5K has grown incredibly in the last six years not just in number of participants, but in the amount of support and hope and love this community has for those of our loved ones and friends who have heard those words, "You have breast cancer!"
If anything you were more determined to show breast cancer that it was not in charge of your life. We had 128 breast cancer survivors with us at this year's race. So many came up to me to share what this event meant to them. One woman said, "This is the best medicine for me to beat my breast cancer! I know I can fight this and win because I see so many people here supporting me in the fight!"
Now, with all the bills and invoices in and paid, it is time to share with all of you the profit that Seymour Pink realized as a result of your INCREDIBLE support in ALL you did and ALL you gave to this 5K....we definitely need a drum roll....
$104,352.25 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are no words ...just no words...so know this "THANK YOU" is has no boundaries to its depth!"

Seymour Pink founder to receive award from alma mater

Mary Deming of Seymour
Congratulations go out to Seymour resident Mary Deming, the founder of Seymour Pink, Inc. on being selected for a much-deserved honor.

The University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford today announced it will honor Mary McEnerney Deming ‘72 with a 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award.

Deming will be recognized for her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to the community at an awards dinner April 17 at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Hartford.

A welcome reception will be held from 6-7 p.m., followed by dinner and an award program.

Deming is president of Seymour Pink, a non-profit organization she founded in 2009 in memory of her mother, Theodosia McEnerney, who died from breast cancer.

Deming, a retired Seymour High School biology teacher, organized a town-wide event, Seymour Pink Day, successfully raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for breast cancer awareness.

In September Seymour Pink opened a gift shop, with all proceeds going to the nonprofit organization.

Deming will receive the Business and Entrepreneurial Award for “developing an opportunity into a successful business or organization, and demonstrating the ability to cultivate a positive and successful image.”

Deming said, "The irony of receiving this very humbling award is that if it weren't for the foundation of Christian values and deep sense of service to others that USJ nurtured in me, Seymour Pink, Inc., might not have been founded, and I would not be receiving this award. So this award belongs to the University of Saint Joseph and I will always be indebted to the University."

Deming earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Saint Joseph. She will be among five USJ alumni honored this year for achievements in their professional careers and community service.

To attend the Distinguished Alumni Awards dinner, contact the USJ Alumni Relations Office at alumni@usj.edu or 860-231-5323.
