ANSONIA - For decades it was a safety hazard, oftentimes discussed at aldermen meetings dating to previous administrations. 

This past week, the steep drop at Fountain Lake dam and spillway was finally corrected with the installation of approximately 175 feet of chain link fence. 
The fence was installed by Walsh Bros. Fence of Orange, and was purchased with funding collected from property blight liens.

The fence extends across both the front dam spillway and rear, facing the lake.

“This was a needed correction to the dam,” said Cassetti. “It was clearly a hazard, and now the fence makes this beautiful walking trail a much safer route. I want to thank Ronda Porrini and our Building Department for drawing our attention to this and getting it addressed.”

Fountain Lake also includes a fishing dock (recently repaired through an Eagle Scout project by Jonathan Palmieri) and picnic tables added last summer along the trail. 
Cassetti said he hopes to add cooking grills alongside the picnic tables soon.

Ansonia mayor to give State of the City Address

ANSONIA - Mayor David S. Cassetti this week announced his fourth annual State of the City address will be held Nov. 1 at the new Farrel-Pomini world headquarters, located atop Fountain Lake (1 Farrel Boulevard).

The event will start at 7 p.m.

The State of the City Address is held in connection with Ansonia Charter Section 8(9), which obligates the mayor to provide an annual report “showing the situation, state, and condition of the city in relation to its government, finances, and improvements.”

As in past years, the address will feature updates on city finances, economic development projects, and other municipal initiatives spearheaded by Cassetti.

“I could not think of a more fitting location to hold this year’s State of the City Address,” he said.

“The Farrel-Pomini Corporation represents Ansonia’s past and future; a testament to our rich history as a manufacturing powerhouse and bright future as a technological innovator in a global marketplace.”

Three years ago the City of Ansonia secured more than $2 million in federal and state grants to build an access road to the top of the Fountain Lake Industrial Park, paving the way for the Farrel-Pomini Corporation’s relocation from downtown Ansonia to a new state-of-the-art facility, and also opening up the park for future tenants.

Visitors to this year’s State of the City Address will be traveling the very same access road on their way to the event.

“Ansonia’s historic spirit of innovation is alive and well, from the high-tech Farrel-Pomini Corporation on Fountain Lake, down to City Hall on Main Street,” Cassetti said.

“I look forward to updating residents on our efforts to recharge and revitalize this great City of Ansonia.”

Lawmakers announce $750K for Fountain Lake access road in Ansonia

HARTFORD - State Rep. Linda M. Gentile, D-Ansonia, and state Sen. Joseph J. Crisco, Jr., D-Woodbridge, today announced $750,000 in funding for the Fountain Lake Industrial Park.  

This money will allow for completion of the access road for Fountain Lake.

“Completing the access road is necessary for the continued development of the industrial park,” Gentile said.  

“It will allow interested parties ease of entry into the development zone, thereby providing new and much needed revenues to our Grand List and create opportunity for new jobs. All of which are good for not only our local community, but also for the communities that surround us.”

“We had a company that had been in Ansonia for 160 years and was considering leaving if there was not an access road built to the new Fountain Lake industrial park,” said Crisco, who worked with Gentile to help secure state bonding for the new access road.  

“This is just another example of Connecticut’s commitment to keep and grow our local manufacturing base, and spending the money necessary for the infrastructure improvements that businesses expect and demand.”

Fountain Lake’s proximity to Routes 8 and 334 makes it an attractive location for businesses.  

And completion of the access is expected to promote economic growth for the area.
