ANSONIA – Griffin Hospital School of Allied Health Careers is offering a new way for individuals to start an in-demand, specialized career in healthcare with its Specimen Processing Technician Certificate program.
This 10-week, hybrid program combines the convenience of self-paced, online learning with valuable hands-on experience.
The flexible course features comprehensive virtual instruction and 30 hours of in-person clinical training through the school’s skills labs.
Hands-on training is held twice a week for 90-minute sessions, giving students the ability to practice on-the-job techniques, gain confidence and build the experience that will set them apart in applying for a Specimen Processing Technician position.
The school is offering the course in response to a growing need for trained laboratory support professionals as healthcare organizations continue to expand their reliance on diagnostic services.
“Specimen Processing Technicians are essential members of a diagnostic laboratory team, responsible for receiving, identifying, labeling, preparing, and routing patient specimens for testing,” said Griffin Hospital School of Allied Health Careers Director Tracy Huneke. “With opportunities in hospitals, physician practices, reference laboratories, and outpatient clinics, Specimen Processing Technicians serve as a vital link between patient care areas and the laboratory.”
The Specimen Processing Technician Certificate program is set to start in the fall of 2026 and is currently accepting applications.
