Wilbur and Ellen Osborne purchased the property in 1840 and this is when they began experimenting with cross-breeding of cows and cattle.
The Osbornedale Farms specialized in Grade A Holstein milk and also milk production using Jersey cows. The dairy portion of the business was run in the main house.
Wilbur and Ellen’s only surviving child, Frances E. Osborne Kellogg, continued the business when her father passed.
This milk bottle, a recent donation to the Library, gives us a look into the past and helps to preserve history.
Thank you to the Berman family for this donation.
Thanks goes to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week.
