'Turnback Tuesday' highlights Ford dealership in Derby

Turnback Tuesday visits the establishment of George E. Knorr Co. at 264 Seymour Ave., Derby.

George E. Knorr started out as sales manager for Central Garage on Third Street in 1927.

In 1934, he took over Tarantino Motor Sales at 262-264 Seymour Ave. and changed the name to "Motor Sales Co." and then in 1939 changed the name to "George E. Knorr Co." George was the Pres-Tres, his wife Alice was Sec'y and Thomas N. Pompa was VP.

In 1948, it became an official Ford dealership. In 1952, it appears George sold the business to Robert Maloney. The dealership was located where the parking lot now exists across the street from Griffin Hospital.
