Griffin Health to host virtual open house for smoking cessation program

Virtual open house slated for smoking cessation program

OXFORD - In recognition of the Great American Smokeout, Griffin Health will host a virtual open house for its free smoking cessation program Nov. 17 from noon-1 p.m.

Participants will learn about “That’s It – Learn to Quit,” Griffin’s four-week smoking cessation program that offers free education, advice and support to help individuals prepare to quit smoking.
Through group discussion and interactive activities, participants learn how to develop a quit plan that addresses their personal behaviors and habits. Strategies to manage nicotine withdrawal, behaviors, triggers, and urges are discussed as well as weight control and stress management.

To register for the open house, call 203-732-1369. The next session of "That’s It – Learn to Quit" is set for Mondays, Nov. 21 and 28, and Dec. 5 and 12 at 4:30 p.m. at The Griffin Center for Healthy Living, Quarry Walk, 300 Oxford Road.

Nov. 17, 2022 is the Great American Smokeout. This annual observance is organized by the American Cancer Society on the third Thursday of November to encourage smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day.
The Great American Smokeout is an opportunity for people who smoke to commit to healthy, smoke-free lives - not just for a day, but year round.

“No matter your age or how long you’ve been smoking, quitting improves health, both immediately and over the long term,” said Griffin Health Services Wellness Facilitator Carolyn Gundell. “Giving up smoking is a journey, and it can be hard, but you can increase your chances of success with a good plan and support, which you can find by joining That’s It! Learn to Quit.”

To register for “That’s It – Learn to Quit,” call 203-732-7106.
