Turnback Tuesday brings you the Second Congregational Church at 136 Elizabeth St., Derby across from the Green.
The church was dedicated January 28, 1846 with Rev. Mr. Cook as its first minister. In 1889, the church added to the rear of the building to accommodate the new organ.
In 1914, Boy Scout Troop 3 was founded in this church and still meets there today.
In 1985, the steeple was damaged by Hurricane Gloria. The houses behind the church are facing Olivia Street.
Thanks goes to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week.
