'Turnback Tuesday' features businesses in downtown Derby

Turnback Tuesday highlights Main Street across from Elizabeth Street in Derby.

The building on the lower left is of E. (Edward) W. Peck & Company at 136 Main, specializing in stoves, ranges, house furnishings, goods, crockery etc.

Edward, in business for 30+ years, started in 1864 at age 25. He later partnered with L. W. Booth in 1882.

The business with the horse and sleigh in front was F. W. Curtiss at 132 Main, a market having dry and fancy goods.

In the background are the frozen Housatonic River and Derby-Shelton Bridge.

Thanks goes to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week.
