'Turnback Tuesday' highlights 3 downtown Derby businesses

Turnback Tuesday remembers three Derby businesses:

Bradley Studios (Walter L.) of 28 Elizabeth St., 1900-1912 until Walter moved to New Haven; Hubbell Brothers Shoes (George P. & John L.), 4 Elizabeth St. ,1896-1916 until their business moved to 265 Main St.; D.H. Kelly Plumbing (Dennis H.) 36 Elizabeth St., 1882-1930 until his death on Oct. 20, 1930 at the age of 74.

This photo was taken sometime between 1900 and 1912. It shows the back of these three establishments at the corner of Olivia and Main Streets looking north. As you can see, all three businesses are advertising their places.

The Derby Parking Garage and the Century Plaza now occupy the spot where these businesses once prospered.

Thanks goes to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week.
