Interesting historic photos shared today by Ansonia Library staff
Carolyn Phelps Stokes, granddaughter of Anson G. Phelps.
The Ansonia Library was built as a gift to the city by Caroline Phelps Stokes, granddaughter of Anson G. Phelps, for whom the city was named. The original costs for the building, memorial fountain, and furnishing was $38,109.09. Notice in some of the photos are the tables and chairs that are still in use today.
