'Turnback Tuesday' highlights class of 1924 from Derby High School
Turnback Tuesday highlights the graduating class of 1924 from Derby High School.
Notice how small the class size is. This was due to the fact that most students did not complete their schooling because they went to work to help support the family.
In this photo, located on the right seated under the light fixture with the white blouse is Evelyn Hollingsworth. After graduation, Evelyn went to Griffin Hospital for nursing. Upon her completion of schooling at Griffin, she became a nurse at Griffin, then later an administrator for the hospital until her retirement.
This photo is a recent donation by Robert Bialek to the Library. Evelyn was the aunt of Robert’s wife. (P.S. We are looking for the 1924 DHS Lookout Book. Please contact the Library if you would like to donate a copy).
Thanks go to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week!
