Derby students commended on community service

U.S. Air Force veterans of the Vietnam War Bob Chechoski, left, of Milford, and Patti Dumin, of New Britain attend a community meeting Wednesday at Irving School. They are members of the Vietnam Veterans of America and students are collecting gently used books to donate to the organization.

DERBY - The fourth-graders who are participating in a reading enrichment program at Irving School deserve plaudits for their initiative to help others in the community.
On Wednesday they kicked off a drive to collect gently used books that will be donated to the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Please check out the story in the Valley Independent Sentinel, and find out where the books are being collected at eight locations throughout the city, including Irving School.

When I told several friends yesterday about the story, they all said "I have so many books at home." Donating them to this drive is a great way to clean out those attics, basements, and closets of those boxes of books that you no longer want.
