Ansonia to rename street in honor of city's first police chief

ANSONIA - The city will rename Railroad Avenue between Main and West Main Streets in a ceremony at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

It will be named in honor of Police Chief Daniel Hayes, who served as chief in 1880. 
On Dec. 23, 1880 Hayes was shot while arresting a suspect and succumbed to his wounds four days later.

The ceremony will be held on National Police Memorial Day and is open to the public.

Ansonia Nature Center to mark Connecticut Trails Day with hike

ANSONIA - Join Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center Director Alison Rubelmann and Ranger Daniel Bosques at 9 a.m. June 2, Connecticut Trails Day, for a morning walk. 

Discover the beauty of the Nature Center’s typical New England woodland during the Connecticut Forest and Park Association’s annual Trails Day weekend.
This moderate hike will also focus on the history of the land, and participants will visit the settlement of the Paugasucks. 
Bring water, a snack, and bug spray, and wear sturdy shoes. 
The hike is suitable for older children and adults. 

The nature center is at 10 Deerfield Road.

A New Event at the Market begins Saturday, May 12! 
The Griffin Wellness Van will be parked at the market doing blood pressure screenings and since it's Women's Health Month they will providing information on women's wellness. Please come down to the market and avail yourselves of these free services. 
The van will be at the Market one Saturday each month for the summer season to provide services to our community. Spread the word and come on down and get fresh with us!

The van will be parked from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the market, 100 Canal St.

I'm certain these 'shrooms weren't there yesterday. 
The Internet tells me they're good for the ecosystem of the yard by breaking down organic material into useful nutrients.

Should I add them to my omelette this morning?

Teen Maker Space slated at Derby Public Library

DERBY - The Derby Public Library invites all young adults ages 12 to 17 to Teen Maker Space, Build a Better World, from 3-4:30 p.m. May 31. 

Available resources include 3D design programs, 3D printer, 3D doodle pens, Legos, and more!
