SEYMOUR - Melissa A. Smith  has been awarded the International President Certificate of Appreciation by Lions Clubs International in recognition of her commitment to Lions.

District Governor Lion Colette Anderson wrote:
“This Lion joined the Seymour Lions in February of 2009.  She became an immediate asset to the club by helping to make their annual car show a success. She was observed running around helping anyone she could from assisting in the kitchen to selling 50/50 tickets, handling distribution of trophies and cleaning up after the show.  She is full of energy, enthusiasm and has great organizational skills.  She moved to become club secretary during which time she learned as much as she could about being a Lion.  She streamlined report requirements and met deadlines resulting in the club receiving 100 percent club.
"Once this lion become club president, she mentored the new secretary who said she was nervous to fill her shoes.  Anyone who knows this Lion is most familiar with her enormous smile and the hug she will greet you with.  She is well respected by her peers throughout the lion community for her hard work and dedication to making the community a better place to live. In the past two years, she has stepped up to be the zone 4 chairwoman. She continues to mentor lions outside her club and to increase membership throughout the zone. Her goal is that they all receive the 100 percent club this year.
"This Lion has been awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship and recently became a guiding lion.  This lion lives the Lion’s motto “We Serve”.”

Smith is a member of the Seymour Lions Club. She has been a Lion for eight years, and she has participated in various club projects including Annual Car Show, Summer Cruise Nights, Fourth Grade Foresters Program, Earth Day, Senior Pizza/Bingo, and numerous other projects.

“It is very rewarding to help fulfill community needs, and it is a great honor to be presented with this award,” Smith said.

The Seymour Lions Club has 44 members and meets on the second Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Tavern 1757.
