Ansonia man, 44, faces DUI, motor vehicle, firearm charges

ANSONIA - Police were investigating a one-car accident at about 9:50 p.m. Feb. 14 on Elm Street when another vehicle traveling on Elm Street struck a stopped marked cruiser - which had its emergency lights activated - then fled the scene, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a release Thursday.

Officers located the evading vehicle on East Main Street and took the driver, Angel Sosa, into custody.
Police located 2 loaded handgun magazines on Sosa and a loaded 9mm Sig Sauer handgun in the back seat of the vehicle.

Sosa, 44, of Ansonia was charged with DUI, evading responsibility, carrying a firearm under the influence, and failing to move over when approaching a stopped emergency vehicle. 
Sosa refused to submit to testing for DUI. 
He was released on a $7,500 bond to be arraigned on Feb. 27 at Derby Superior Court

All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Derby Police arrest Waterbury man on multiple motor vehicle charges



DERBY - Patrol Officer Tirado initiated a motor vehicle stop Oct. 24 on Nasir Gibson [DOB May 15, 1991] of Waterbury for motor vehicle violations. 

During the stop, Gibson displayed signs of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said. After failing standard field sobriety tests, he was placed under arrest for DUI.

Police said further investigation revealed Gibson was illegally in possession of a loaded firearm equipped with a large-capacity magazine. As a result, Gibson was additionally charged with the following offenses:

Criminal Possession of a Firearm (CGS 53a-217)
Criminal Possession of a Large-Capacity Magazine (CGS 53-202w)
Weapon in Motor Vehicle (CGS 29-38)
He was held on a $750,000 bond.

Ansonia Police charge teen in April street takeover on Wakelee Avenue

ANSONIA - Police arrested a 17-year-old male on both juvenile and motor vehicle charges for his involvement in the April 26, 2025, street takeover on Wakelee Avenue. 

Due to his age the name of the suspect will not be released; the motor vehicle charges regarding the incident will be separate from the juvenile charges and will be adjudicated at Derby Superior Court, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a release today.

 

On May 15 the male was charged with riot first degree, conspiracy to commit riot first degree, and reckless endangerment first degree and held by Juvenile Court.

 

Lynch said the male was charged Wednesday with reckless driving, racing, operating without a license, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and operating with no insurance. 

He was held on $25,000 bond and will be arraigned Friday June 6 at Derby Superior Court.


All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
