Community coming together to help Derby family bury 5 children

DERBY - A horrific car crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Scarsdale, N.Y. early Sunday took the lives of five children ages 8-17 who recently had moved here from New York.

The Naugatuck Valley Health District Tuesday night reported three COVID-19 associated deaths among senior citizens in Ansonia and Shelton.

Attached please find the latest update from Naugatuck Valley Health District.

You will notice that we have temporarily removed the negative lab report column from Table 1. as we are trying to catch up with the negative reports in our system. 

NVHD is not receiving the negative reports directly from our health care partners any more and we suspect that is due to the fact they are entering them into an online portal instead. The CT electronic disease surveillance system does not easily identify negative lab reports so identifying them is a bit time consuming. 
For example, many are labeled as “suspect” so we have to go in and verify each profile and lab report that they are actually negatives and not pending further results.

We appreciate the patience of our residents and partners who receive our data reports and hope to have the negative test data updated by some point next week.

"There were 2 new residential cases reported today however one was also sadly a COVID-19 associated death. The decedent was a Derby resident in her 80s. 
"Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this time. Thank you, Jess."

Rochelle shares statewide stats for COVID-19 cases

As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, a total of 42,979 COVID-19 cases have been reported among Connecticut residents. 

This includes 40,941 lab-confirmed and 2,038 probable cases. 

To better measure the burden and impact of COVID-19 on Connecticut communities and conform with CDC reporting guidance, the state Department of Public Health is reporting cases and deaths as "confirmed" or "probable." Previous reports presented these as a combined number. 

Rochelle, D-Ansonia, represents the 104th District.

As of Friday at 3:30 p.m., a total of 41,762 cases of COVID-19 have been reported among Connecticut residents. Day-to-day changes reflect newly reported cases, deaths, and tests that occurred over the last several days to week. 

All data in this report are preliminary; data for previous dates will be updated as new reports are received and data errors are corrected.

Today, NVHD learned of 13 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 associated deaths among Valley residents. 
While today’s report includes a high number of deaths, the deaths reported occurred between the period of April 24 to May 15. Of the decedents, one individual was a Shelton male in his 40s. The additional 12 deaths were residents of nursing homes in Naugatuck (6) and Shelton (6). 
We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the individuals who have lost their loved ones due to COVID-19 complications.

"Today, NVHD learned of five laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 associated deaths among Valley residents. One individual was a Naugatuck female in her 70s and another individual was an Ansonia male in his 60s. The additional 3 deaths were residents of nursing homes in Seymour (1) and Shelton (2). We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the individuals who have lost their loved ones due to COVID-19 complications.

"Deaths reported to and by NVHD occurred within the last week, not necessarily since the last NVHD report. 
"For public health surveillance, laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 associated deaths are defined as patients who tested positive for COVID-19 around the time of death; this is not a determination of the cause of death. The health district does not have further details including whether there may have been underlying health issues or other contributing factors.

"On April 10, 2020, the state Department of Public Health started to include COVID-19 deaths that are not laboratory-confirmed in daily reporting. 
"NVHD will now report on COVID-19 associated deaths including both a) persons who tested positive for COVID-19 around the time of death (laboratory-confirmed) and b) persons who were not tested for COVID-19 whose death certificate lists COVID-19 disease as a cause of death or as a significant condition contributing to deaths (probable) in Table 2.

"NVHD has linked free mental health and wellness resources for individuals, families, and first responders who may be experiencing heightened anxiety, stress, and other emotions during this pandemic at www.nvhd.org/coping."
