Ansonia Police charge Bridgeport man in burglaries on Wesley Street

ANSONIA - Police reported today that at about 9 a.m. July 25 officers responded to the Wesley Street area following reports of an individual entering parked motor vehicles and a garage.

Upon arrival, an officer observed a person matching the suspect's description entering a nearby residence.

Officers quickly responded, surrounded the residence, safely entered the residence, and located the suspect hiding inside a closet. Items believed to have been stolen from several of the vehicles were recovered nearby.

Renell C. Campbell of Bridgeport was arrested and charged with four counts of burglary in the third degree and two counts of larceny sixth degree. He posted a $25,000 bond and will be arraigned on Aug. 7 at Derby Superior Court.

Ansonia Police thank the residents who immediately reported the suspicious activity and provided information that helped officers quickly locate and apprehend the suspect.

All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Ansonia police ask residents to report suspicious activity

Good morning Ansonia Hilltop neighbors. I just read this message on Facebook from our police department and thought I should share.

"The Ansonia Police would like to make residents aware of two burglaries that have occurred within the past two weeks in the area of Highland Avenue, Beverly Drive and Webster Drive. Both burglaries have had similar methods of entry and electronic items and money were taken from the homes.

"We are asking that residents who live in the area to be aware of any suspicious activity and to report any persons who may be wandering the area. Both burglaries were of homes that were unoccupied. Please keep an eye out on properties of neighbors who may not be home during the daytime.

"At this time we are not able to release any specifics as it relates to a suspects but if more information becomes available this information will be made public.

"Burglary update:

"On 09-02-2015 Ansonia Police along with Derby Police took an individual into custody after reported suspicious activity, a male standing on a deck, in Derby near Sunset Drive. During the course of the investigation information was obtained that led officers to believe that this individual may have been involved in the recent rash of burglaries in the hilltop area of Ansonia. The individual was taken into custody by Derby Police for his involvement in the Derby incident.

"Ansonia and Derby Police executed a search warrant at a residence in Ansonia where officers retrieved items that were believed to have been stolen in previous burglaries in Ansonia. The burglaries are still under investigation and police will be speaking to the victims to see if any items seized can be identified.

"We are still asking that residents make sure they close and lock windows and doors and pay attention for any suspicious activity in their neighborhood. Please report this activity to the police at 203-735-1885."

Ansonia Hilltop residents learn about burglaries, block watch plans

Ansonia residents cram into firehouse to get information about recent break-ins and attempted break-ins in the Hilltop section of the city.

Officials estimated that more than 300 residents attended the informational meeting.

Ansonia Police Chief Kevin Hale said the large turnout was "a very good thing. It's a very good step going forward." 
He said six burglaries had occurred between Aug. 6 and Aug. 21. "There have been more attempts than actual burglaries," Hale said. "Every entry has been through an open or unlocked window. No force has been used except for a cut screen, and we're not even sure of that."

Hale said all of the break-ins and attempted break-ins have occurred between 11:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Stolen items included small electronics, including laptops and cell phones.

He said, "We have enhanced our presence up here tremendously but we haven't taken away from patrols in other parts of the city."


As Hilltop residents my husband and I were both glad to see the community turn out and share their concerns.
