New patient council members appointed at Griffin Hospital in Derby

DERBY - The newest members of Griffin Hospital’s Patient Family Advisory Council recently started the 2017 schedule, helping the Derby hospital continue it patient-centered care philosophy.

The newly-appointed Council members include Horace Behrle and Fran DiGiorgi, both of Ansonia, David Erhardt of Derby, Kenneth Hawkins of Milford, Nicole Levine of Oxford, and Edward Paradis of Beacon Falls.

As either former patients themselves or family members of patients, the 17-member Council is charged with providing real-time feedback and insight to help enhance hospital services and programs.

The Council partners with the hospital to maintain its patient-center care focus. Members learn about various hospital programs and services, receive updates on performance measurements, such as patient experience, safety, financial and facilities improvements, and provide input and options on new programs and services under consideration.

The Council meets once a month and members commit to a two-year term. 

The new members join current members, including Donna Bak of Woodbury, Nadine Civitella of Ansonia, James Healy of Seymour, Natasha Koonce-Webster of Hamden, Jamie Mastrony of Shelton, Robert Newton of Seymour, Janet Onidi of Shelton, Alfred Pettit of Ansonia, Joseph Skrabl of Ansonia, Rita St. Jacques of Ansonia, and Susan Wisneski of Beacon Falls.

The Patient Family Advisory Council is just one of many ways individuals in the community can serve in contributing to the hospital’s mission of providing personalized, humanistic, consumer driven healthcare in a healing environment.

DERBY - The new Griffin Hospital’s Community Advisory Council held its first meeting last week.
As either former patients themselves or family members of patients, the 18-member Council is charged with providing real-time feedback/insight with the goal of enhancing hospital services and programs.

The Council will partner with hospital professionals at Griffin to help the hospital maintain its patient-center care.

At each meeting, the Council hears a presentation by one of the department directors to learn about the elements of their area, ask questions and provide feedback. Council members are also briefed on current hospital news and serve as a valuable resource, offering opinions and input on a number of new programs or projects that may be under consideration.

The Council meets once a month and commits to serving a two-year term.

The Community Advisory Council is just one of many ways individuals in the community can play a critical role in providing this exceptional care at Griffin Hospital. Starting with a patient’s first step in the door at the hospital, Volunteer Ambassadors escort patients to appointments as well as assist visitors and caregivers find their loved one’s location in the hospital.

Room Service Volunteers visit patients to tell them about all the Planetree amenities, including complementary soft touch massage, therapeutic touch or Reiki treatments, therapy dog visits, guided imagery meditation, aroma therapy, portable DVD players, or a fresh-baked cookie or muffin.

In addition to being the messengers about these services, Griffin Hospital offers opportunities to become the volunteer provider of these services, providing training in each of the therapies and baking.

Griffin Hospital in Derby seeks advisory council members

DERBY - Griffin Hospital is looking for individuals to share their healthcare experiences in order to improve its patient-center care model.

Griffin is recruiting members for its 2015-2017 Community Advisory Council, which offers patients and their families the opportunity to provide feedback that will help Griffin enhance its care practices. 

The CAC meets once a month for about two hours at a dinner meeting.

There will be an open house in December to explain details about Council participation.
