DERBY - Griffin Hospital will host a Reiki Level 1 Workshop June 2 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Reiki is a complementary healing method rooted in ancient practices that involves the intentional direction of energy through the practitioner’s hands. 

When channeled properly, this energy relieves energy blockages to the body and brings balance to the energy fields thereby promoting healing on all levels.

Reiki Master Nancy Corvigno will teach the basic concepts of Reiki, allowing ample time for hands-on practice.

The workshop cost for the public is $150, which includes completion certificate and Reiki book. 

Griffin Hospital employees and current volunteers can register at the rate of $25. Payment must be cash or check, and is due upon enrollment.

Workshop participants from the general public are required to become a Griffin Health volunteer, and are expected to give 100 hours of service prior to receiving their Reiki completion certificate.

Reiki Master Eileen Carino, RN-BC, and Mark Sampieri, RPh, will provide practitioners with the ability to perform emotional healing, to learn three of the four Usui Reiki sacred symbols, and to enhance their healing abilities. 
Reiki 2 attunement intensifies the energies introduced at Reiki 1. Participants must have completed Reiki Level 1 training and a minimum of six months Reiki practice.

Reiki is a complementary healing method based on ancient healing practices. Reiki involves the conscious direction of healing energy through the practitioner’s hands to the patient. 
When channeled properly, this energy promotes healing by relieving energy blockages to the body. The practice of Reiki is intended to bring balance to the energy fields thereby promoting healing on all levels.

Music education/healing arts center in Shelton to host open house Saturday

SHELTON - A new business, SoulSong, recently opened its doors at 163 Leavenworth Road.  

Owner Suzanne Vick defines SoulSong as a Music Education and Healing Arts Center.  

Her vision is to create an open, supportive community where people can come together for creative expression, guidance and healing one-on-one from her and also from each other. 

This beautiful space has two private session rooms for music lessons and Reiki/energy healing, as well as an open, spacious waiting room that will double as an area for group sessions which will include a songwriter circle, sound healing events and a monthly Saturday seminar series starting March 18 with certified Holistic health and nutrition counselor Sharon See.  

Vick is a music instructor, songwriter, professional performer, certified Reiki Master Teacher and mentor.  
She has taught voice and vocal performance for over 12 years and worked with countless individuals, groups, bands and choirs, enabling them to achieve new levels of confidence and excitement about singing and performing.  

After teaching and developing a solid clientele at RVP Studios in West Haven for 11 years, Vick started her own teaching practice and expanded her services to include Reiki/energy healing and mentoring in 2015.  

With SoulSong, Vick sees her dream of creating a safe, open space for education, expression and healing become reality. She believes what the world needs most now is healing and is deeply grateful to be able to provide personal growth and expression through her music and healing services.

DERBY - The Griffin Hospital Life after Stroke Support Group will feature a free talk on the ancient healing practice of Reiki at its next meeting from noon-1 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital, 350 Seymour Ave.

Certified Reiki Master Nancy Corvigno will present “Reiki after Stroke.” 

Corvigno will explain and demonstrate Reiki, and discuss the relaxation benefits for stroke survivors.

DERBY - Griffin Hospital, 130 Division St., invites the community to learn how to perform the healing benefits of Soft Touch Massage and Reiki with two workshops at the hospital in February.

The Soft Touch workshop will be held from 1-4 p.m. Feb. 20. 
The Reiki workshop is scheduled from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 27. Both therapies are offered to patients and their caregivers at Griffin Hospital as a way to reduce their anxiety, pain and stress.

Soft Touch is a therapeutic, relaxing and gentle rub that can be given to an individual's hands, feet, or back. 
The workshop is led by Licensed Massage Therapist Joanne Halstead, R.N., BSN, and Physical Therapist Nancy Corvigno, MSPT, PRPC. 
This basic-level training includes a demonstration of various Soft Touch techniques as well as opportunity for hands-on practice.
